While Participating in the Forum of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Digital Transformation Era, Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, ďA Great Breakthrough of Tanta University as a Smart Third-Generation UniversityĒ

  • Smart cards for students, academic staff, and employees with effect from the new academic year.  
  • A huge leap in development of technological infrastructure, a smart platform for e-books, and digitalization of student services. 
  • More internet capacity, increasing the servers from 12 to 47, and raising the processor from 300 to 1400    While participating in the Forum of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Digital Transformation Era, Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, Tanta University President, reviewed the most significant achievements of the university in digital transformation such as smart ID cards, online payment, e-books, intellectual property rights, development of electronic portals, and operating electronic systems.  

        The forum was organized by Ministry of Higher Education on Thursday and Friday, current September 16th and 17th in Al-Ain Al-Sokhna in attendance of Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Prof. Tarek Shawky, Minister of Education; presidents of governmental, private, international and technological universities, presidents of technical institutes, and representatives of ministries of Education, Health and Population, Planning and Economic Development, Communication and Information Technology, and Social Solidarity, in addition to many public figures and IT experts.  

        University President asserted that Tanta University is effectively changing into a smart third-generation university; there is a huge leap in technological infrastructure through raising the processor from 300 to 1400 and increasing the servers from 12 to 47. Thereupon, the internet capacity is increased by 6 times compared to that in last January as well as digitalization of student services, online payment of tuition fees, and creating a smart platform of e-books

         Moreover, he reviewed the digital ID cards affirming that these cards are available now for all students, academic staff and employees and that they will be distributed in a few days’ time at the beginning of the new academic year. He pointed out that all the needed information was recorded on a chip in each card. 

         He declared that high priority is given to digital transformation, financial inclusion, knowledge-based economy, and digitalization of services at faculties. Therefore, electronic systems are now used in all educational, research and administrative activities  

         Prof. Mahmoud Zaki added that the university took many procedures to achieve comprehensive digital transformation such as providing the main data center of the university with 47 new servers. Thus, capacity of the data center is increased by 400%. In addition, all campuses are connected with fiber cables under the umbrella of the cooperation protocol signed by Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. The speed of the internet was raised from 200 Mbps to 500 Mbps.  

         He pointed out that University Information Network was provided by extra wireless speed of 700 Mbps in five university campuses. Therefore, the internet speed was increased by 600% to improve the quality of the electronic services offered to academic staff, students, researchers and trainees such as students’ research platform, educational platforms, and training platforms.
