For the First Time, Tanta University is One of the Top 250 World Young Universities according to the British Times Ranking (THE)

 

      New breakthrough has been achieved by Tanta University in world rankings of universities as it appeared for the first time in Times Ranking of Young Universities that was issued today for universities established less than 50 years ago. Tanta University has been one of the top 250 world universities. It has gained the 6th rank at the level of Egyptian universities according to this ranking. Moreover, it has come first of all Egyptian universities in the criterion of teaching with a degree of 43.3 %.

     Times Ranking of Young Universities depends on the same criteria as world universities’ ranking. It uses 13 criteria divided into five areas: learning environment, university research, contributions of the university, impact of scientific research, innovation and university's openness to the world. 

   It is worth mentioning that Tanta University joined Times Ranking for the first time last year and attained the international rank of (801-1000). It gained different ranks in Times Ranking of subjects as it was one of the top 500 universities in “Engineering and Technology”. It had the rank (501-600) in “Life Sciences” and the rank (601-800) in “Physical Sciences” and the rank 601 in “Clinical and Pre-clinical Sciences”.   

   In the same context, Tanta University joined the ranking of emergent economies’ universities affiliated to the same ranking and achieved the rank 198 and became, thus, one of the top 200 universities in 2019. 

   For his part, Prof. Magdi Sab', Tanta University President, affirmed that Tanta University joining Times Ranking of Young Universities for the first time had been based on the directions given by President\ Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to raise the ranks of Egyptian universities’ sites in world rankings. He stated that that achievement reflected the continuous quest of the University to increase efficiency of the site and to offer excellent educational environment. He added that those results were culmination of the role played by World Ranking Committee headed by Prof. 'Emad 'Etman, University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and the team who periodically followed up of requirements of different rankings and constantly updated the needed data. 

     Furthermore, Prof. 'Emad 'Etman, University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, added that the University had given great interest to world ranking recently to help the University get higher rank through drawing up strategic plans and organizational procedures adopted by the University for scientific publishing to encourage researchers on publishing in international scientific journals. He highlighted the necessity of gathering all University personnel’s efforts to attain higher world ranks. 

   Prof. Mustafa Al-Sheikh, Tanta University Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, affirmed that that progress was a result of the important steps taken by Postgraduate Studies and Research Sector to enhance the research role of the University and to urge researchers to publish papers in international scientific journals via increasing bonuses of international publishing.  

   In addition, Prof. Dina Abdel Hady, Manager of the Electronic Portal Project and Manager of World Ranking Unit at the University, thanked the committee of helping Egyptian universities improve world ranks formed by Ministry of Higher Education to offer support to universities in this regard for their continuous support of Tanta University. She commended the role of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) in helping the University during the last six months through organizing workshops in fields of scientific publishing and world ranking.
