Activities of the day included receiving the children and visiting several laboratories at Faculty of Agriculture, such as the Central Laboratory for Soil and Plant Analysis and the Plant Tissue Culture Lab. Workshops were held on energy and environment topics, introducing concepts like food web and the energy pyramid, presented through an informative session. In addition, a live demonstration with reptiles was held in an interactive lecture to teach the children about biodiversity conservation methods and to explain the difference between weather and climate.
During the visit, the children explored the faculty’s farm and greenhouses, participating in simple agricultural activities such as planting seedlings. This helped them to understand temperature differences between closed and open systems and to simulate the greenhouse effect.
Moreover, Prof. Mahmoud Selim took the opportunity to introduce the participants of “A Child’s University” to "Nabta" project, a self-funded innovation initiative from Tanta University. The project is technically supervised by a specialized team of academic staff members. Prof. Selim also met the project team and reviewed the pilot model, which has been developed for eventual commercial marketing to economic and industrial stakeholders. In his presentation, Prof. Selim highlighted how the pilot model aligns with the goals of Community Service Sector as for transforming universities and higher education institutions into productive and community-serving units.
