Tanta University Qualifies for the Shortlist of the Times Higher Education Award for Environmental Leadership as Part of the Times Higher Education Arab World Awards 2025
Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President of Tanta University for Community Service and Environmental Development, stated:
“I express my great pride and honor that Tanta University has qualified for the shortlist of the Times Higher Education Award for Environmental Leadership as part of the Times Higher Education Arab World Awards 2025.
This achievement is not merely a recognition of our efforts but is a confirmation of the strong link between our strategic vision in the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector and the tangible field achievements we are accomplishing.
The ‘Bedaya for Sustainability’ project is the best evidence of our commitment to achieving sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030. This project, under the umbrella of the presidential human development initiative “A New Beginning for Human Development”, shows the essence of our strategy that focuses on transforming academic and research knowledge into community and environmental initiatives with a direct and sustainable impact on the lives of citizens in the Egyptian countryside. Our veterinary, agricultural, and awareness services, which have benefited more than 30,000 citizens in the villages of Gharbia, empowered more than 1,000 farmers, and implemented more than 60 outreach activities on waste management and biodiversity conservation. These services are living examples of our commitment to improving quality of life and developing local capacities.
This success could not have been achieved without the visionary planning of Prof. Ayman Ashor, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, through the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, which has established the concepts of institutional excellence and environmental sustainability as two fundamental pillars of our work.
I also extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to Prof. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU), for his continuous support, and to Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, for his wise leadership that paved the way for these achievements. I must also especially thank all deans and vice deans of the faculties, and the dedicated teams in the university centers and units, who have made tireless efforts and worked in a spirit of teamwork to achieve this great accomplishment.
We believe that community service is no less significant than education and scientific research, and this recognition motivates us to further work and dedication to enhance the role of Tanta University as a pioneer in sustainable development and in serving our beloved country.”
