Prof. Mohamed Hussein:
• The meeting with the President of the Spanish university highlighted joint cooperation and achievements through the “Erasmus+” and “Horizon Europe” programmes.
• The university seeks, through this visit, to explore opportunities for establishing sustainable partnerships.
Professor Dr. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, led a high-level official delegation on a visit to the University of Cantabria in Spain, as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international academic and research cooperation and enhance its global reputation. The delegation included Professor Prof. Hatem El-Sayed Amin, Vice President of Tanta University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Saleh Shalaby, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and International Students Centre.
The Egyptian delegation commenced the first day of activities with an extensive meeting with the President of the University of Cantabria and the Vice President for International Relations. The meeting reviewed the history of joint cooperation and the achievements accomplished through the “Erasmus+” and “Horizon Europe” programmes, in addition to discussing future visions for deepening the partnership between the two institutions.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein stated that the visit aims to activate the joint cooperation agreement and the fully European Union-funded Erasmus+ project (ERASMUS+ KA171), which focuses on developing the capacities of faculty members and providing fully funded postgraduate study and training opportunities for students. He emphasized that, through this visit, the university seeks to explore opportunities for establishing sustainable partnerships in the fields of industrial engineering and telecommunications engineering, as well as to examine advanced research laboratories to enhance the quality of education and scientific research.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein further affirmed that the visit reflects the university’s ambitious strategy of engaging with leading international universities and creating new horizons for scientific research, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship in line with international standards. He added that, through the activation of these agreements and European Union-funded programmes, such as “Erasmus+” and “Horizon Europe,” the university aims to empower faculty members, enhance their capabilities, and provide fully funded training opportunities and scholarships for students and researchers. These efforts contribute to preparing a distinguished generation capable of competing within the global academic and research environment.
Professor Dr. Hatem Amin added that this initiative represents an extension of Tanta University’s achievements in international training programmes, similar to its previous two-year partnership with the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom. He noted that the current training programme continues for four consecutive weeks in the classrooms and laboratories of Tanta University’s faculties, aiming to qualify students and immerse them in a global academic environment. He emphasized that gaining exposure to advanced educational and research laboratories seeks to facilitate technology transfer and knowledge exchange, thereby improving the quality of the university’s research outputs and opening broad opportunities for Egyptian researchers and innovators to actively participate in international programmes such as “Horizon Europe.” This, in turn, positively contributes to the university’s global ranking and international academic reputation.
