As part of its continued commitment to fostering international academic partnerships, the delegation from Tanta University, led by Prof. Mohamed Hussein, University President, and Prof. Ahmed Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, continued its visit to the University of Cantabria in Spain. The visit aligns with Egypt’s National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and aims to broaden cooperation in academic and research fields.
During the second and third days of the visit, the delegation toured the School of Industrial and Telecommunication Engineering and the School of Civil Engineering, where in-depth discussions were held with faculty members, including Prof. Alfredo Ortiz, to identify potential areas of collaboration. The program included visits to research laboratories and academic facilities, as well as presentations on Tanta University’s training centers, paving the way for future exchange and internship opportunities for students from Cantabria.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein emphasized the strategic importance of this visit within the context of Egypt’s higher education development goals, particularly in enhancing international competitiveness, promoting research and innovation, and building globally competent graduates. “Our fruitful discussions focused on expanding postgraduate opportunities, faculty exchange, and joint research across multiple disciplines,” he stated.
Key outcomes of the discussions included:
Agreement on offering Erasmus-funded postgraduate scholarships for study at the University of Cantabria in various fields.
Funding from Erasmus+ to support full academic semesters for Tanta University students in Spain.
Collaboration in peer review for Tanta University’s Faculty of Engineering journal.
Inclusion of Cantabria faculty as external reviewers for postgraduate theses and dissertations.
Prof. Ahmed Nasr highlighted that the visit marks a promising step toward a sustainable and impactful partnership, supporting joint research initiatives, academic excellence, and knowledge exchange between the two institutions. “We are optimistic that this collaboration will significantly enrich engineering education and research output at Tanta University,” he added.
This visit reflects Tanta University’s proactive approach in expanding global partnerships and building bridges with leading international institutions to create impactful educational experiences and research-driven solutions for global challenges.
