Prof. Muhammad Hussein: European projects support the transformation of scientific knowledge into applied solutions that serve industry and the green economy

   Prof. Hatem Amin: Researchers' participation in Horizon Europe raises the quality of research outputs and enhances the university's international competitiveness

   Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, stressed the university's keenness to expand its participation in competitive international research projects, and to enhance cooperation with European universities and research centers in fields that support the transition towards a green economy, environmental sustainability, and circular economy applications.

   This came during the official visit made by the Tanta University delegation to the University of Cantabria in Spain, headed by Prof. Mohamed Hussein, and including Dr. Hatem Amin, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Saleh Shalaby, Deputy Executive Director of the Center for International Relations and Expatriate Affairs at Tanta University.

   The delegation held a meeting with Prof. Luis Muñoz, Vice President for International Relations at the University of Cantabria, to discuss ways to expand research cooperation between the two universities. The two sides agreed to prepare a joint research proposal to be submitted within the Horizon Europe program, which would increase Tanta University's participation in competitive European projects and support the formation of international multidisciplinary research teams.

   As part of the follow-up of existing research projects, the Tanta University delegation held a meeting with Prof. Alfredo Fernández, Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cantabria, to discuss the progress of work on the Horizon Europe project to develop and use bio- and recycled oils as insulating fluids in electrical power transformers, in a way that supports reducing environmental impact and enhancing Circular economy applications in the energy sector.

   Tanta University is participating in the project as an assistant partner, as its research team is responsible for conducting measurements and tests related to the thermal and electrical properties of the proposed insulating fluids, which are among the basic scientific tasks to evaluate the efficiency of these fluids and their suitability for safe and sustainable use within electrical power transformers.

   Prof. Alfredo Fernández stressed the importance of the scientific and technical role played by Tanta University within the project, praising the efficiency of the university's research team and its ability to implement specialized tests and measurements in accordance with the required scientific standards.

   He also praised the research relationship that has extended for more than six years with the Tanta University team, headed by Prof. Saleh Shalaby, Professor of Engineering Physics, and with the participation of Prof. Duaa Mokhtar, Professor of Electrical Power and Machinery, explaining that this partnership has resulted in a number of successes, including obtaining three funded projects for the mobility of students and faculty members, winning a project funded by the Horizon Europe program, in addition to jointly submitting a number of competitive European research proposals.

   Prof. Mohamed Hussein explained that Tanta University's participation in a European research project related to energy, sustainability and the circular economy reflects the development of the university's research capabilities and its success in building international partnerships based on scientific integration, exchanging expertise and implementing applied research tasks with added value.

   The university president pointed out that international projects provide researchers with opportunities to engage with the latest scientific technologies and methodologies, contribute to linking scientific research to actual industrial and environmental challenges, and transform research outputs into innovative, applicable solutions, stressing that the university places supporting bilateral and international projects among its strategic priorities.

   He added that Tanta University seeks to maximize the benefit of its researchers from Egypt's accession to the Horizon Europe program as a partner country, and to build strong research alliances that increase opportunities to obtain European funding, raise rates of international scientific publishing, and support the university's position in global rankings.

   For his part, Prof. Hatem Amin stressed that cooperation with the University of Cantabria represents a successful model for sustainable research partnerships that move from exchanging visits and experiences to implementing joint and internationally funded scientific projects.

   The Vice President of the University added that direct contact with international research schools contributes to developing the capabilities of faculty members and researchers, raising the quality of scientific research, and applying precise standards in designing experiments and analyzing results, in addition to providing training opportunities and academic mobility for researchers and graduate students.

   He pointed out that the university is working to provide technical and institutional support to research teams wishing to apply to European Union programmes, and to form multidisciplinary research groups capable of competing, in order to achieve integration between academic expertise, industry needs and sustainable development priorities.
