Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, announced the achievement of distinguished research progress in the Nature Index during the period from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, as Egyptian universities topped the list in applied sciences (Applied Sciences), achieving first place locally and 1227th place globally, reflecting the growing presence of the university in the fields of applied scientific and technological research, and its orientation towards linking scientific research with innovation, industry and the needs of society.
At the level of academic performance (Academic), Tanta University achieved fourth place locally, out of 45 Egyptian universities included in the index; 20th place in Africa, out of 455 African universities; and 1,643rd place globally, out of more than 6,900 universities. This reflects the university's growing presence on the scientific research map, locally, regionally, and internationally.
The university also recorded remarkable progress in overall research performance (Overall), which includes universities and research institutions. It ranked fourth locally, out of 74 Egyptian universities and institutions, and 2,177th globally, out of more than 25,000 universities and research institutions. Thus, Tanta University achieved an advancement of 438 places globally.
At the level of academic institutions, the university maintained fourth place among Egyptian universities, advancing from 1,789th place globally to 1,643rd place globally, achieving an advancement of 146 places globally.
Prof. Hatem Amin, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research at Tanta University, added a distinguished presence across a number of scientific fields. The university ranked second locally and 1,246th globally in Physical Sciences, and fourth locally and 2,638th globally in Natural Sciences. It also ranked sixth locally and 1,440th globally in Social Sciences, in addition to maintaining a distinguished research presence in the fields of Chemistry and Health Sciences. These results reflect the diversity of the university’s research output and the breadth of its scientific specializations.
During the current index window, Tanta University recorded 27 scientific research papers (Count), with a Share value of 3.90. Applied Sciences accounted for the largest share of the university’s research performance, with 11 research papers and a Share of 2.70, followed by Physical Sciences, with 5 research papers and a Share of 0.99. The university also maintained a research presence in Health Sciences, Chemistry, and Social Sciences.
The index data showed a clear diversity in the research topics that characterize Tanta University. Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Astronomical Sciences, Pure Mathematics, Control Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics, Electronics, Sensors and Digital Devices, Cardiology and Hematology, and Quantum Physics emerged among the university’s most prominent research topics during the current period. This reflects a growing trend toward interdisciplinary, applied, and technological research fields.
