Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President , announced a new national achievement after the university ranked first among Egyptian public universities in achieving the highest literacy eradication targets, according to the official results of the October 2025 cycle for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with 11,950 citizens successfully declared literate.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein expressed his deep pride in this accomplishment, extending his congratulations to all students and members of the Tanta University community who constituted the cornerstone of this success. He emphasized that the university’s leadership in this vital national file is the result of the collective efforts of the entire university family, and he extended special appreciation to Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, for his distinguished management of the literacy eradication program.
The President of the University noted that contributing to the eradication of illiteracy among nearly 12,000 citizens within only three months, raising the total number of beneficiaries supported by the university to approximately 200,000 citizens, represents a culmination of Tanta University’s sustained efforts in the national battle for development and construction, and embodies its pioneering role in serving the community.
Prof. Hussein added that this achievement reaffirms the university’s institutional commitment to the national development framework derived from Egypt Vision 2030, and reflects its continuous efforts to maximize the role of Egyptian universities in delivering impactful community services that directly improve citizens’ lives, as a national institution contributing knowledge-based outputs toward building the New Republic.
For his part, Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, praised the unlimited support provided by Prof. Mohamed Hussein to the community service sector, stressing that such support is the primary driver of excellence. He also extended his gratitude to Mr. Mohamed Abou El-Nabaiel, Director of the Gharbia Branch of the General Authority for Adult Education, as well as to literacy coordinators across the university’s faculties for their extensive field efforts.
Prof. Selim emphasized that the Community Service Sector operates in accordance with well-defined executive plans aligned with Tanta University’s strategic plan and the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research. He further added that the university’s literacy eradication efforts are implemented through close coordination with the General Authority for Adult Education and in cooperation with executive bodies in Gharbia Governorate.
He concluded by noting that the university’s role does not end with literacy education alone, but extends to providing real employment opportunities for those who have completed literacy programs, in cooperation with civil society organizations and industrial sector partners, transforming them into productive contributors to society.
