Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, announced that the T-Racers team at the Faculty of Engineering achieved an unprecedented historic achievement in the Formula Student UK 2026 competitions, which were held at the Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom, after obtaining third place globally in the overall standings of the Concept Class category, so that University students continue to write a new chapter of Egyptian excellence in international engineering forums.
The team succeeded in becoming the first Egyptian and Arab team to qualify for the finals of the Business Plan Presentation Competition in the history of the competition, achieving third place in the finals, in a precedent that reflects the ability of Tanta University students to combine engineering excellence, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, and transforming innovative ideas into competitive models that are applicable to investment.
The team achieved a number of advanced global positions, including first place globally in Project Management, third place in the Business Plan Presentation Finals, fifth place globally in Design, eighth place globally in Cost & Manufacturing, and ninth place globally in Lap Time Simulation.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein stressed that this achievement comes within the framework of the political leadership’s directives emphasizing the importance of building the capacities of the Egyptian people, supporting innovators, and maximizing investment in knowledge by transforming creative ideas and research into applications and products with economic and developmental value.
He added that this achievement also aligns with the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led by Prof. Abdel Aziz Qansouh, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, to build a university system that fosters innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship while enhancing its competitiveness at the regional and international levels.
The President of Tanta University added that what the T-Racers team has achieved represents a practical model of what the university aims to do in terms of developing the capabilities of its students, and linking academic study with industrial, administrative and entrepreneurial applications, explaining that universities are no longer institutions for transferring knowledge only, but have become platforms for producing innovation, building capabilities and creating solutions that contribute to supporting the national economy and achieving sustainable development.
Prof. Muhammad Hussein said that the participation of university students in international competitions does not only aim to achieve advanced positions, but rather represents a strategic path to achieve the internationalization of university education, exchange experiences with international institutions and teams, and build sustainable international partnerships, in addition to improving the university's academic and institutional reputation and enhancing its presence on the global higher education map.
The university president continued that the Tanta Engineering team's arrival to the podium among the elite university teams from around the world proves that Egyptian youth possess the knowledge, skills and will necessary for international competition, and confirms the university's success in providing an educational environment that supports creativity, teamwork and multidisciplinary innovation. He thanked Prof. Ahmed Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the student supervisors and the members of the winning team.
Prof. Al-Sayed Al-Ajouz, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, expressed his happiness with what the Faculty of Engineering team achieved during the competitions, stressing the provision of all means of support to distinguished male and female students in all faculties of the university in local and international competitions in accordance with the university's strategy in caring for its distinguished and talented children.
For his part, Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, expressed his great pride and honor in the achievement made by the team, stressing that the results reflect the advanced scientific and professional level reached by the faculty students, and their ability to employ engineering sciences, design, simulation, project management, and financial and manufacturing planning in an integrated project subject to precise international evaluation standards.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering explained that the team participated under the academic supervision of Dr. Hajar Alam El-Din Mohamed Bastawisi, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Power Engineering. He expressed his appreciation for the scientific effort, continuous supervision, and unwavering support she provided to the students throughout the preparation, qualification, and competition stages. He also extended his sincere thanks and appreciation, emphasizing that her role was pivotal in developing the team members' capabilities and fostering integration between the engineering, administrative, and strategic aspects of the project. Her guidance helped prepare the students to compete at a level befitting the name of Tanta University and reflecting the distinguished status of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The Dean of the Faculty also congratulated all members of the T-Racers team, praising their commitment, discipline, teamwork, and ability to perform under pressure. He reaffirmed the Faculty of Engineering's continued support for student teams and innovative projects by providing an academic and training environment that enables students to transform their ideas into competitive projects with strong potential for further development and real-world application.
