Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, has announced the issuance of a presidential decree appointing Prof. Mohamed Hussein Mahmoud as the new President of Tanta University with effect from March 26, 2025.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein earned his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Ain Shams University in 1990 with highest honors. He then joined Tanta University’s Faculty of Engineering as a teaching assistant in 1992. He obtained his Master’s degree from Ain Shams University in 1996, followed by a PhD in Structural Engineering through a joint supervision program between Tanta University and North Carolina State University, USA, in 2002. That same year, he was appointed as a lecturer at Tanta University’s Faculty of Engineering.
He progressed through academic ranks, attaining the title of Professor in 2013. Throughout his career, he has held several key positions, including Director of the Reinforced Concrete Laboratory and Director of the Engineering Research and Consultancy Center at Tanta University. In 2014, he was appointed Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and later served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering from September 23, 2021. By December 2021, he assumed the role of Vice President for Education and Student Affairs at Tanta University. Since August 1, 2024, he has been serving as Acting President of the university until his recent official appointment.
It is noteworthy that Prof. Mohamed Hussein has also been an active member of the Permanent Scientific Committee for the Promotion of Professors and Associate Professors in the Structural Engineering field, affiliated with the Supreme Council of Universities.
