Professor Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, announced that the university has achieved a new milestone in international rankings by advancing 38 positions globally in the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) 2025–2026. The university ranked 583rd worldwide, compared with 621st in the previous edition. It also maintained its 8th position nationally among 36 Egyptian universities included in the ranking, which evaluates the world's top 3,000 universities.
The President of the University stated that this notable advancement clearly reflects the university’s continued progress in research and academic performance. He emphasized that this achievement is the result of sustained and integrated institutional efforts aimed at strengthening the scientific research ecosystem, promoting international publication in leading peer-reviewed journals, and expanding collaboration networks with global research institutions. These efforts have directly contributed to enhancing the quality of research outputs and increasing citation rates for the work of the university’s scholars and researchers.
Professor Hussein extended his appreciation to Professor Hatem Amin, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, as well as the deans, vice deans, and the teams at the University Center for International Rankings, for their dedicated efforts and continuous work in monitoring and improving performance indicators. He stressed that this accomplishment is the outcome of a collaborative team-oriented approach committed to elevating the standing of Tanta University in international academic circles.
He further noted that maintaining the university’s eighth-place ranking nationally underscores the strength of its research infrastructure and the success of its strategic plans aimed at fostering excellence and innovation. He affirmed that the university operates in full alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the country’s Sustainable Development Goals, while continuing to invest in the professional development of faculty members and researchers and expanding international partnerships to enhance the university’s competitiveness and leadership at both regional and global levels.
Professor Hatem Amin added that the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) is one of the leading international rankings dedicated to assessing the academic and research performance of universities. Established in 2009 by the Informatics Institute of the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Türkiye, the ranking was designed to develop a global system for evaluating universities based on academic performance indicators that reflect both the quality and quantity of scientific output.
Published annually since 2010, the ranking relies on data from the Web of Science database and the InCites platform of Clarivate. It evaluates universities using six key indicators of academic and research performance: the number of scientific articles (21%), scientific citations (21%), total article impact (18%), total citation impact (15%), international collaboration (15%), and the total number of scientific documents (10%). Together, these indicators provide a comprehensive assessment of the volume, quality, and international impact of a university’s scientific output.
