Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, and His Grace Bishop Bola, Metropolitan of Tanta and its dependencies and Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Falak Foundation, witnessed the launch of the “Al-Falak” application supporting children with Down syndrome on Android and iOS operating systems. The application is one of the graduation projects of the Faculty of Computers and Information students, in the presence of Prof. Nancy El-Hefnawy, Acting Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Osama Ghoneim, Acting Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research and supervisor of the student project, as well as several faculty members, teaching assistants, and students.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein and His Grace Bishop Bola listened to a detailed presentation of the project, including its operational mechanisms, objectives, and expected outcomes. The presentation reflected the students’ ability to employ computer science, artificial intelligence applications, and digital transformation in providing practical solutions to societal and developmental issues, affirming the alignment of educational outputs with community needs. The “Al-Falak” project represents a digital educational and support platform specifically designed for children with Down syndrome. It aims to enhance their cognitive, educational, and social skills through interactive educational games and various activities. It also enables parents to monitor their children’s progress, manage medication schedules and alerts, and access educational and awareness content. In addition, it provides an administrative dashboard for relevant institutions to monitor children’s performance, communicate with parents, and send notifications and educational content.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, emphasized that the launch of the application directly implements the directives of the political leadership in supporting persons with disabilities and the activities of the Presidential Initiative “A Decent Life for People with Disabilities.” He affirmed that investing knowledge in serving human needs and building individuals represents a strategic developmental pillar and a reinforcement of humanitarian values. He also praised the presence of His Grace Bishop Bola as an inspiring scene reflecting the spirit of social and developmental cohesion in Gharbia Governorate, and affirmed that the university is open to all community institutions and local partners, in belief of its role in serving humanity and supporting development issues.
He added that Tanta University always welcomes such national and community engagement that strengthens the values of participation and integration, noting that today’s student projects confirm that the university does not merely provide academic knowledge but also works to transform it into applied solutions that serve the most needy groups and enhance quality of life. Through these projects, the university seeks to strengthen students’ national awareness by actively engaging them in providing realistic solutions to community needs.
The University President further indicated that the “Al-Falak” project represents an exemplary model for employing technology in service of persons with disabilities. He stressed that the university places great importance on supporting student innovation and entrepreneurship, and on encouraging students to develop projects with real societal impact, particularly in areas related to inclusive education, healthcare, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. He added that the development of this project involved extensive interdisciplinary collaboration between the university and the Al-Falak Foundation over several months, through cooperation between the student team, faculty members of the Faculty of Computers and Information, and specialists from the foundation. He also noted that the university has decided to organize workshops for children with Down syndrome, their parents, and staff of the Al-Falak Foundation to train them on operating and using the application.
For his part, His Grace Bishop Bola, Metropolitan of Tanta and its dependencies, expressed his appreciation for the high level he witnessed among the students of the Faculty of Computers and Information, affirming that Tanta University represents a national center of expertise and a key partner in serving the local community in Gharbia Governorate. He praised the idea of the “Al-Falak” project for its important humanitarian and developmental dimension, as it supports children with Down syndrome and empowers their families to participate in the learning and care process. He stressed that such projects reflect the university youth’s awareness of societal issues and their ability to provide innovative, human-centered solutions.
Prof. Nancy El-Hefnawy, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information, affirmed that the faculty is committed to ensuring that graduation projects genuinely reflect what students have studied in terms of modern sciences and technologies, and that these projects are linked to societal needs and the labor market. She added that the “Al-Falak” project embodies the faculty’s direction toward supporting smart applications with societal impact, through the integration of programming, user interface design, data analysis, and artificial intelligence. This enables the creation of an integrated digital ecosystem serving children, parents, educational institutions, and care centers. She extended her thanks to Prof. Osama Ghoneim and the distinguished student team.
