Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, honored today Dr. Shaker Hussein, Consultant and Director of the Neurointervention and Stroke Fellowship Program at Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala, Republic of India; Dr. Amal Al-Hashemi, Senior Consultant in Neurology and Stroke, Canadian Board-certified from McGill University and a former Research Fellow at the University of Oxford; and Dr. Mohamed Al-Mekhlafi, Associate Professor of Stroke Medicine and Neurointerventional Radiology at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, and Medical Director of the Acute Stroke Unit at Foothills Medical Centre.

    The ceremony was attended by Prof. Mohamed Hantira, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors; Dr. Ehab Shawky, Director of the New Stroke Center; and Prof. Shahira Sharaf El-Din, Executive Director of the Main Center for International Relations and International Students Affairs.

    This came on the sidelines of their participation in the 10th Conference of the Faculty’s Neurology Unit, where they took part in the exchange of scientific expertise, workshops, and the preparation of memoranda of understanding in the fields of training and research between the Stroke Center and the Oman Stroke Society. They also discussed collaboration with the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, Canada, in the field of stroke medicine, including joint supervision of academic theses, as well as cooperation, training, and the exchange of expertise in interventional catheterization for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke.

    Prof. Mohamed Hussein emphasized that hosting and honoring these distinguished medical and academic figures from Canada, India, and Oman is part of Tanta University’s strategy to promote the internationalization of higher education and expand its networks of international cooperation. He further noted that the University is making concerted efforts to achieve significant advances in the development of its university hospitals, particularly the Stroke Center, through the implementation of memoranda of understanding, joint training programs, and specialized academic supervision of research theses in collaboration with international institutions.

    He added that the exchange of expertise in advanced medical technologies with foreign universities and institutions directly contributes to enhancing the capabilities of the University’s medical professionals and providing patients with state-of-the-art medical services that meet international standard.
