Tanta University President Inaugurates the First Student Scientific Research Conference at the Faculty of Medicine and Tours the Research Projects Exhibition

Professor Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, inaugurated the first edition of the Student Scientific Research Conference at the Faculty of Medicine. The event was attended by Professor El-Sayed El-Agouz, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Mohamed Hantira, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors, and President of the Conference; Professor Mohamed Gaber, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and Vice President of the Conference; Professor Mohamed El-Bedewy, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and Professor Ragia Sharshar, the Faculty's Student Activities Coordinator. A number of faculty members, researchers, physicians, students, and young researchers also attended.

Professor Mohamed Hussein emphasized that holding the inaugural edition of the conference represents an important step toward fostering a culture of scientific research among students in medical faculties and preparing a new generation of physicians and researchers equipped with critical-thinking skills, systematic research methods, and the ability to innovate and generate knowledge.

He noted that the conference is aligned with the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to invest in developing Egyptian human capital, advancing higher education and healthcare systems, supporting young people, and identifying their creative and research potential. He stressed that young people are the cornerstone of building a future founded on knowledge and innovation.

The University President added that the conference reflects the strategic priorities of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, under the leadership of Professor Abdel Aziz Konsowa, which aim to strengthen integration between education, scientific research, and innovation, while linking research outcomes to society's needs and development priorities.

He affirmed that Tanta University places the advancement of its research system, support for innovation, digital transformation, and improvement of medical service quality at the forefront of its strategic priorities. These efforts stem from the University's academic and social responsibilities and its role in preparing highly qualified scientific and medical professionals capable of competing and making meaningful contributions to the development of the healthcare sector.

Professor Mohamed Hussein explained that developing physicians who are also skilled researchers does not begin after graduation; rather, it must start during the earliest stages of university education. This can be achieved by giving students opportunities to raise scientific questions, analyze data, evaluate research evidence, and address health-related challenges through scientific approaches grounded in critical thinking, analysis, and innovation.

He stressed the importance of transforming student scientific research from a mere academic activity into a sustainable institutional practice that helps refine students' skills and prepares them to contribute effectively to generating and applying knowledge.

The University President called on participating students to make the most of the conference activities, remain open to exchanging ideas and experiences, and engage in discussions about their research findings, while adhering to research ethics and the principles of academic integrity.

He reaffirmed the University's continued commitment to supporting young research talents, providing an environment conducive to creativity, and creating opportunities to transform outstanding student ideas and projects into practical applications with tangible health and societal benefits.

He also expressed his hope that the conference would become an annual scientific tradition at the Faculty of Medicine and a sustainable platform for identifying promising researchers and strengthening scientific communication between students and faculty members.

Professor Hussein extended his appreciation to Professor Mohamed Hantira, everyone involved in organizing the conference, the research supervisors, and the participating students. He expressed his hope that the conference would produce recommendations and research projects that could be further developed and implemented to serve the healthcare system and society.

For his part, Professor El-Sayed El-Agouz emphasized that the conference reflects Tanta University's commitment to developing student scientific activities as an essential component of the educational process.

He explained that providing students with opportunities to participate in research conferences from the early stages of their university studies helps develop their critical-thinking, scientific analysis, teamwork, and academic communication skills. It also enhances their ability to keep pace with rapid advances in medical sciences and healthcare technology.

The Vice President for Education and Student Affairs added that the University is working to strengthen integration between academic education, practical training, and scientific research. This approach supports the development of physicians who are also capable researchers and can address healthcare challenges based on sound scientific principles.

He emphasized that such events play an important role in identifying outstanding students, encouraging collaborative research initiatives, and expanding opportunities for communication between students and researchers, ultimately contributing to improved educational quality and better medical services for the community.

In the same context, Professor Mohamed Hantira explained that organizing the inaugural edition of the conference is part of the Faculty of Medicine's strategy at Tanta University to involve students in scientific research from an early stage and develop their abilities to formulate research questions, design studies, analyze findings, and interpret results using sound scientific methodologies.

He noted that the conference provides an interactive academic environment where students can present their research, discuss their work with faculty members and specialists, and benefit from scientific guidance and a wide range of research expertise.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine affirmed that the Faculty is committed to instilling the principles of scientific integrity and research ethics among students and encouraging them to apply their academic knowledge to studying priority medical and healthcare challenges.

He added that these efforts contribute to developing a generation of physicians capable of combining professional competence with research excellence. He also stressed the importance of using the conference to establish a strong foundation of talented student researchers who will be qualified to participate in more advanced scientific and research projects in the future.

On the sidelines of the conference, Professor Mohamed Hussein, accompanied by Professor El-Sayed El-Agouz and Professor Mohamed Hantira, toured the accompanying Student Research Exhibition, which featured a diverse collection of research projects and innovative ideas prepared by Faculty of Medicine students across various medical disciplines and fields.

The University President and his accompanying delegation listened to presentations by students explaining the objectives and methodologies of their projects, their most significant findings, and their potential applications.

They also discussed the scientific and research aspects of the students' work and explored opportunities to further develop these projects to address healthcare challenges and serve the community.
