Tanta University announces the opening of participation in the regional competition, “Designing a Tourist Route for a Heritage Village… From Concept to Implementable Product.” This initiative is part of Tanta University’s role in leading the Delta Region Universities Alliance and reflects its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the principles of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the promotion of cooperation and integration among universities. It also aims to launch community-based initiatives that address regional developmental needs in accordance with available resources and economic frameworks, thereby enhancing the role of universities and higher education institutions in increasing the gross domestic product.
The competition is held under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University; Dr. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President of the University for Community Affairs and Environmental Development; Dr. Al-Sayed Abdel Azim Al-Ajooz, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs; and Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. It is supervised by Dr. Shahira Sharaf El-Din, Acting Head of the Department of Architecture, and Dr. Marwa Qamar El-Dawla, Acting Head of the Department of Urban Planning and Design.
The competition aims to select one of the registered heritage villages, analyze its challenges, and present a comprehensive developmental vision. This vision includes designing an integrated tourist route within the village and producing a final product (prototype) that realistically represents the proposed concept.
The competition requirements stipulate that the project must culminate in at least one “tourism product” that is ready for presentation, such as: an interactive map of the tourist route (QR/Web Map), village branding (logo – visual identity – colors – fonts – signage model), a concise visitor guide, a 3D model of the route (physical or digital), or a model for an innovative tourism service (application – activity concept – heritage experience). In this way, the project is not merely a design but a comprehensive experience that can be marketed as an actual tourism product, serving the heritage villages in the Delta region.
The work requirements include a comprehensive analysis of the current problems in the village, a developmental vision with practical and implementable solutions, the design of a tourist route specifying points of attraction, activities, services, and infrastructure, the production of the “final product” according to one of the models mentioned above, and a promotional video for the route.
Participating teams should consist of (one faculty member + one assistant staff member + four students).
