Tanta University Community Service Council Discusses Localizing Industries, Modern Technologies and Supporting Green Projects

The Community Service and Environmental Development Council of Tanta University held its meeting under the chairmanship of Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Selim, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, in the presence of many academic and executive leaders, as well as vice deans for community service and environmental development from the university's faculties. The meeting discussed several topics and initiatives related to supporting sustainable development, localizing industries and modern technologies, and enhancing the capacities of personnel in executive institutions.
The Council began its meeting by approving the minutes of the previous session. It then reviewed the mechanisms and regulations governing the submission of projects through the Smart Green Projects Platform, with the aim of encouraging faculties, centers, and university units to submit innovative projects that generate environmental, economic, and societal benefits. The Council also discussed the letter received from the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) regarding the Smart Green Projects initiative and ways to support the university's participation in it.
The meeting also featured a presentation by Doaa Gomaa Essawy, a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture at Tanta University, on a project for manufacturing perfumes from jasmine paste and localizing this industry. The presentation highlighted opportunities to utilize jasmine crops and local agricultural resources to produce value-added products, while supporting productive projects and industries based on the natural resources that distinguish Gharbia Governorate.
Prof. Mahmoud Selim affirmed that Tanta University, through its Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, places special emphasis on innovative projects and ideas that can be transformed into practical applications and productive ventures. He explained that localizing the manufacture of perfumes extracted from jasmine represents a model for the optimal investment of local resources and for linking academic and research expertise with the needs of industry and the market.
He added that the university is seeking to establish an integrated framework for cooperation among faculties, research centers, productive sectors, and executive bodies to maximize the added value of agricultural products, support entrepreneurship, create new employment opportunities, and enhance the competitiveness of the local economy, in line with the state's vision for sustainable development and the green economy.
The Council also discussed a letter submitted by the Chairman of the Gharbia Businessmen Association regarding an initiative to promote and localize modern technologies in the field of agricultural machinery. The initiative aims to develop the agricultural mechanization system, facilitate the transfer of advanced technologies, and improve the efficiency of agricultural and production processes through integration between the university, the industrial sector, and the business community.
In addition, the Council reviewed a proposal to implement a series of specialized training programs for employees of executive bodies in Gharbia Governorate, in cooperation with the Faculty and Leadership Development Center (FLDC) at Tanta University. The programs aim to enhance administrative, digital, and planning skills, improve institutional performance, and strengthen the capacity of executive bodies to keep pace with development requirements and digital transformation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council highlighted the importance of developing clear implementation mechanisms for the initiatives and proposals discussed, while identifying the participating entities, roles, and responsibilities to ensure that the proposed ideas can be changed into practical projects and programs with measurable outcomes that contribute to community service and support development plans in Gharbia Governorate.
