In Cooperation with the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Child University Program at Tanta University Continues Its Activities at the Faculty of Engineering to Develop Children's Skills in Mathematics, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Technology
As part of the implementation of the Child University Program and under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, and the supervision of Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Engineering at Tanta University welcomed participants in the Child University Program over two consecutive days. Students enrolled in Level E2 attended on Monday, July 20, 2026, while Level E1 students participated on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. The activities formed part of the program's training curriculum, which aims to develop children's intellectual and creative abilities, introduce them to modern engineering disciplines and the applications of artificial intelligence and technology, and connect scientific concepts with practical applications through an interactive university learning environment.
The children and their parents were welcomed by Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Walaa Nour, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Samir Zaki Qamh, Coordinator of the Child University Program at Tanta University; and Dr. Eman El-Ghamry, Program Coordinator at the Faculty of Engineering, together with a number of faculty members and teaching assistants, who were committed to providing an educational experience that combined theoretical knowledge with practical application.
The program began with an introductory lecture delivered by Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Nasr, who introduced the Faculty of Engineering, its various academic departments, and its academic offerings, which include fifteen academic programs. He also highlighted several modern specializations, including Biomedical Engineering, New and Renewable Energy Engineering, and other programs designed to meet the evolving demands of the future labor market. He further outlined the faculty's educational and community role in preparing engineering graduates capable of keeping pace with technological advancements, a presentation that generated considerable interest and enthusiastic interaction among the children.
The activities included a diverse range of scientific workshops and practical sessions. The children participated in specialized workshops on artificial intelligence and programming, where they learned the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, how to use AI tools to access reliable information, and the basics of programming and various programming languages, with particular emphasis on Python. The workshops attracted considerable interaction, reflecting the children's strong interest in these fields.
The children also took part in an engaging applied mathematics workshop introducing the concept of interpolation and its use in animation. They learned how mathematical algorithms govern the movement of objects before creating practical models using graph paper and transforming them into animated sequences, in an activity that successfully combined mathematical thinking with digital creativity.
The program also featured an introductory workshop on Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering, during which the children learned about the applications of these disciplines in mechanical systems design, energy engineering, manufacturing, robotics, and refrigeration and air conditioning, as well as the wide range of future career opportunities this specialty offers.
During the second day, the children participated in a series of interactive mathematics activities designed to develop logical and creative thinking while demonstrating the applications of mathematical concepts across different engineering disciplines. They also toured the faculty, including a visit to the Modeling and Simulation Unit, where they explored the latest engineering simulation technologies and viewed robotic models together with their applications in various fields.
The children also visited the Concrete Laboratory, where they learned about the stages of testing concrete mixtures, measuring their various properties, and the importance of these tests in ensuring the quality and safety of engineering structures before the construction of buildings, bridges, and roads. The visit introduced them to the vital role of civil engineering in creating safe and sustainable infrastructure while linking the scientific principles they had learned to practical applications in engineering laboratories.
The activities also included a workshop presented by a group of Faculty of Engineering students on the practical applications of robotics. They demonstrated examples of robotic technologies used in industrial and service sectors, generating significant interest among the children, who actively participated by asking questions and engaging with the presenters.
Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, also visited the Child University participants during the training activities at the Faculty of Engineering. He reviewed the progress of the program and its scientific workshops, observed the children's interaction with the various activities, and listened as they explained the knowledge and skills they had acquired in programming, artificial intelligence, mathematics, and engineering. He commended their enthusiasm for learning and their ability to understand scientific and technological concepts, affirming that the Child University Program represents one of Egypt's leading national initiatives for preparing a generation equipped with scientific and creative thinking skills while strengthening children's connection with the university environment from an early age.
