Prof. Mahmoud Selim Presents Tanta University’s Future Economic Vision for Enabling Local Investment and Enhancing Export Competitiveness

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, Prof. Mahmoud Selim Presents Tanta University’s Future Economic Vision for Enabling Local Investment and Enhancing Export Competitiveness

Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Selim, Tanta University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, delivered a presentation entitled “Enabling Local Investment and Enhancing Export Competitiveness: A Future Economic Vision for Localizing Domestic Industries.” The presentation was attended by MP Mahmoud El-Shamy, Member of the Parliament’s Industry Committee, members of the Community Service Council, and members of the Faculty of Applied Arts Council.

During the presentation, Prof. Selim outlined an integrated vision for supporting productive investment in Gharbia Governorate by localizing value-added industries based on the governorate’s available natural and economic resources and linking them to the requirements of domestic and international markets. This vision is aligned with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s strategy under the leadership of Prof. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, as well as the directives of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President.

The presentation included a number of economic feasibility studies for selected medium-scale industrial projects, based on the governorate’s productive and economic potential. These projects aim to maximize the utilization of locally available raw materials and increase their added value rather than trading or exporting them in their raw form. They also seek to create direct and indirect employment opportunities, support supply chains and ancillary industries, and improve the environmental performance of productive activities.

Prof. Selim expressed his appreciation to Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, for his continued support of the sector’s activities. He pointed out that the proposed vision goes beyond conventional financial feasibility studies and instead adopts an integrated economic model encompassing an analysis of investment requirements, operating costs, production capacity, expected returns, and the payback period, in addition to analyzing target markets and managing risks associated with production, marketing, and export activities. The model also includes developing alternatives and scenarios to address economic changes and fluctuations in raw material, energy, and transportation costs, as well as shifts in international markets.

He added that, through these studies, the university seeks to develop knowledge and scientific research into practical tools to support decision-makers and investors and to provide viable investment models based on realistic economic analysis of available resources and opportunities. At the same time, these models take into account environmental sustainability requirements and international standards, thereby supporting the state’s efforts to deepen local manufacturing, increase exports, create employment opportunities, and enhance the competitiveness of the national economy.
