Prof. Mahmoud Selem Attends the Launch of BASEF 2025/2026 to Discover the Talented in Science and Engineering in Gharbia

    In line with Tanta University’s vision to serve community and support innovation — and under the directives of Prof. Mohamed Hussein Mahmoud, University President, to connect university education with advancements in scientific research and engineering design in schools — Prof. Mahmoud Selem, Vice President of Tanta University for Community Service and Environmental Development, participated in the inauguration of the local Science and Engineering Fair “BASEF” 2025/2026 in Gharbia Governorate.

The event was held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University, in cooperation with the Gharbia Directorate of Education.

    Prof. Selem was accompanied during the inauguration by Mr. Nasser Hassan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education in Gharbia; Prof. Loay El-Ahwal, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Mohamed Gaber, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Mona Qotait, Manager of the Public Service Center at the faculty and “Decent Life” Coordinator; Prof. Ali El-Deeb, former Head of the Department of Rheumatology and Physical Medicine; Ms. Gehan Mostafa Saber, Deputy Director of the Directorate; Mr. Ahmed Fayed, Director of the Technology Development Center in Gharbia; Mr. Said El-Mashaly, Coordinator and Director of Scientific and International Competitions at the Technology Development Center; and members of the ISEF Committee at the Center.

     The exhibition, organized by the Faculty of Medicine in cooperation with the Technology Development Center of the Directorate, hosts 77 projects presented by 118 students from various types of schools in Gharbia (public, technical, private, STEM schools, and applied technology schools). The participating projects span diverse fields including biomedical sciences, materials science, embedded systems, robotics, plant sciences, microbiology, chemistry, environmental engineering, and other modern scientific and technological disciplines.

    Prof. Mahmoud Selem commended the high scientific level of the students’ projects and innovations, affirming Tanta University’s continuous commitment to supporting a new generation of researchers and innovators. He highlighted the university’s readiness to provide the necessary academic and logistical resources to prepare them for international competitions such as the Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Science and Engineering Fair.

   Judging committees — comprising distinguished professors from Tanta University’s Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Computer and Information, Science, Agriculture, and Education — are scheduled to begin evaluations tomorrow, Tuesday, December 2. The committees will select the top projects to qualify for participation in the final exhibition at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in February 2026.
