Launching the “Best Eco-Friendly Faculty” Competition at Tanta University

   Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, and in the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Eissa — Deputy Governor of Gharbia, Prof. Mahmoud Selim announced:

— Launching the “Best Eco-Friendly Faculty” Competition at Tanta University.

— Producing the first applicable standard model for smart green villages in line with sustainability indicators and criteria.

— Accelerated steps toward providing a healthy, sustainable environment equipped with the latest technologies to serve communities in rural areas of Egypt, through cooperation between Tanta University and Gharbia Governorate.

   The meeting of the Council for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs at Tanta University was held on Monday, 8 December 2025, under the chairmanship of Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. The meeting was attended by Dr. Mahmoud Eissa, Deputy Governor of Gharbia, along with several faculty deans including Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Nasr — Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Afaf Abdel Aziz Basel — Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Rania Abdo El-Emam, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education — Prof. Hany Said Abdel Moneim, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education, Prof. Yasser Ahmed El-Gharf — Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Prof. Mona Abdel Hamid Al-Aassar, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Essawy Kassem Mahmoud — Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed Ibrahim — Acting Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts.

   The meeting was also attended by the Vice Deans for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; Mr. Ahmed Rashad Shalaby (University Secretary General); Engr. Nasser Hassan Ismail (Undersecretary of the Directorate of Education in Gharbia); Engr. Mohamed Abdallah Kotb (Environmental Affairs Agency); Ms. Hasnaa Ahmed Ibrahim (Undersecretary of the Directorate of Social Solidarity in Gharbia); Dr. Neima Aref Mostafa (Undersecretary of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Gharbia); Mr. Mohamed Abdel Karim El-Sharkasy (Director of the Environment Department in the Governorate); M.G. Deyaa El-Din Mohamed (Head of Zefta City and District); Dr. Abdel Wahab El-Hadary (Coordinator of Decent Life Initiative); Dr. Heba El-Sharkawy (Community Participation Officer at Decent Life Initiative); Mr. Hany Kafafy (Head of the Local Unit in Tafahna El-Azab); and Mr. Ahmed Fawzy Fawzy (Head of the Local Unit in Sand Bast).

    During the session the launch of the competition “Best Eco-Friendly Faculty” was announced, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, to support sustainability within the university’s development strategy and its commitment to raising environmental awareness and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The competition aims to transform faculties into leading models in resource conservation. Participating faculties are evaluated based on several key indicators, including infrastructure standards, water management and conservation, renewable and alternative energy management, recycling, scientific research related to sustainable development, and the faculty’s engagement with the surrounding community.

   Prof. Mahmoud Selim also delivered a presentation titled “Tanta University’s Vision for Developing a Sustainable Green Village Model,” in cooperation with Gharbia Governorate, as part of efforts exerted by the university to promote sustainable development and to achieve Egypt’s vision 2030. He confirmed that the project aligns with the national direction toward green and digital transformation, noting that the university aims to act as a driving force for development in the Delta region. He indicated that villages are the foundation of comprehensive development, and the Sustainable Green Village Project represents a step toward providing a healthy, sustainable environment equipped with advanced technologies to support communities in rural areas of Egypt.

    For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Eissa, Deputy Governor of Gharbia, highlighted the depth of the strategic partnership between the Governorate and Tanta University. He praised the university’s efforts, which embody Egypt’s vision 2030 for green and digital transformation, stressing that this project offers strong support to the Haya Karima (Decent Life) initiative.
