With Distinguished Parliamentary and Academic Attendance — The Art of Sustainability Revives Waste Materials

“Design Methodologies and Approaches” Exhibition Opens at Faculty of Applied Arts, Tanta University

   Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, and within the context of promoting environmental awareness and reinforcing the concepts of sustainability, the Faculty of Applied Arts, Tanta University inaugurated a distinguished art exhibition organized by preparatory-year students under the course “Design Methodologies and Approaches,” marking the emergence of a new generation of purposeful and environmentally responsible art.

   The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Abdel Hamid Selim, University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development and Head of the Faculty of Applied Arts Council; MP Mahmoud El-Shamy, Member of the House of Representatives; Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts; in addition to a distinguished gathering of faculty members, teaching assistants, and students.

   Prof. Mahmoud Selim affirmed that the exhibition represents a genuine implementation of Egypt’s vision for sustainable development and environmental preservation, noting that Tanta University does not merely provide academic education, but also seeks to instill a sense of social responsibility among its students. He further emphasized that transforming waste materials into powerful artistic and humanitarian messages demonstrates that today’s youth possess the awareness and creativity required to offer innovative solutions to environmental challenges. He also expressed his pride in the Applied Arts sector, which consistently links art with societal issues.

   For his part, MP Mahmoud El-Shamy expressed his great pride in the progressive vision presented by the preparatory-year students of the Faculty of Applied Arts, stating that integrating educational curricula with environmental awareness and recycling initiatives is a pioneering step worthy of full support and appreciation by the Parliament and the executive bodies. He also commended the students’ success in transforming discarded materials into tools for positive change and awareness of everyday societal issues, reflecting the enlightening role of Tanta University in serving the wider community.

   The exhibition was organized and supervised through the dedicated efforts of the faculty’s academic staff under the supervision of Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim, Acting Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Ahmed Mahmoud El-Sheikh, Acting Head of the Ready-Made Garments and Fashion Industry Department. Distinguished efforts were also made by the course coordinators Dr. Siham Ahmed Sayed Dawood, Dr. Shereen Badry Ahmed Abdel Aal, and Dr. Ola El-Sayed El-Toukhy Ismail, with the assistance of Teaching Assistant Toqa Mostafa Abbas Hussein. The attendees expressed their admiration for the high quality of the exhibited works, which reflected precision in design, excellence in execution, and the students’ ability to utilize environmental materials in enhancement of artistic and societal concepts.
