The Community Service and Environmental Development Council at Tanta University held its regular session under the chairmanship of Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, in the presence of faculty deans, vice deans, a distinguished group of undersecretaries of ministries, and representatives of the executive authorities of Gharbia Governorate. The meeting featured a comprehensive review of the sector’s achievements, highlighting an AI-enhanced strategic vision that has established a qualitative roadmap for maximizing the university’s societal and developmental impact.
During the session, Prof. Mahmoud Selim delivered a presentation entitled “AI-Enhanced Strategic Performance: Four Years of Innovation and Impact (July 2022 – June 2026)”. The presentation shed light on the structural and digital transformations in the sector, reviewing performance indicators and the community achievement matrix, which relied on intelligent modeling and geospatial data to ensure the highest levels of effectiveness and efficiency.
In his opening speech, Prof. Mahmoud Selim expressed his sincere appreciation to Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, for his continuous support and patronage of all sector activities. He also extended his gratitude to the faculty deans, vice deans, administrative staff members, and managers of the centers and units affiliated with the sector. He affirmed that the accomplishments achieved by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector over the past four years represent a genuine transformation in the philosophy of academic community engagement. The sector has strategically and systematically focused on key priorities, foremost among them providing full support for the Egyptian state’s major national projects and presidential initiatives, particularly the Decent Life Initiative, while simultaneously strengthening the implementation of comprehensive financial and administrative governance mechanisms to ensure resource sustainability. In addition, the sector has worked diligently to enhance graduates’ employability by providing sustainable training opportunities aligned with the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The Council also reviewed a comprehensive report on the major medical convoy directed to North Sinai Governorate, which was conducted from May 8 to 10, 2026, in cooperation with Arish Higher Institute of Engineering and Technology. The medical and administrative teams of Tanta University undertook an outstanding national and humanitarian mission, providing advanced medical and therapeutic services free of charge to thousands of citizens in the most underserved areas. In recognition of these great efforts, Prof. Mahmoud Selim honored the leaders of this distinguished medical mission, including Prof. Mohamed Hantira, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board; Prof. Mohamed Mohamed El-Shebeny, former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the University Emergency Hospital; and Prof. Loay Mohamed Mabrouk El-Ahwal, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. The recognition also included the physicians and administrative personnel who participated in the convoy.
In a related context, the Council discussed a proposal presented by Prof. Alaa Helwish, Executive Manager of Sustainable Training at the university. The proposal outlined a comprehensive plan for developing the Faculty and Leadership Development Center (FLDC), aiming to restructure training programs in accordance with international standards and to integrate digital innovation and artificial intelligence technologies into the training system. The initiative seeks to meet the aspirations of academic staff members while enhancing the quality of educational, research, and environmental development outcomes at the university.
The meeting was attended by a select group of academic and executive leaders whose insights enriched discussions on strengthening cooperation between the university and the wider community. Participants included Prof. Afaf Abdel Aziz Bassal, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing; Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts; Prof. Adel Mohamed Helal El-Metwally, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture; Prof. Zeinhom El-Said Salem Eissa, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science; Prof. Yasser Mohamed El-Metwally El-Makaky, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry; Prof. Sherif Rabie Wahid Abdel Rahman, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education; Prof. Heba Rohey Abdo Abu El-Maati, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sports Science; Prof. Ibrahim El-Sayed Mohamed Obeid, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business; and Asst. Prof. Omnia Gamal El-Din El-Barbary, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information for Community Service and Environmental Development.
Also in attendance were undersecretaries of ministries and representatives of executive bodies in Gharbia Governorate, further strengthening integration between the university and state institutions. The participants included Engr. Mohamed Abdullah Kotb, representing the Environmental Affairs Agency; Dr. Neama Aref Mostafa, Undersecretary of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Gharbia; and Mr. Nehad Abdullah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor. All participants commended the remarkable developmental progress and smart digital transformation currently being achieved by Tanta University across its various community engagement initiatives.
