Medical Care Services Are Offered to 750 Patients in Kotour District, and Outreach Symposiums Are Organized for Thousands of Citizens
In coordination with Decent Life Foundation, Tanta University organized a comprehensive developmental convoy to Semella village in Kotour district to examine patients and to give them medicaments for free under patronage of Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, University President, in attendance of Prof. Mahmoud Selim, University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Mohamed Al-Shebeny, Vice Dean of Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Sahar Al-Haggar, Vice Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy for Community Service and Environmental Development.
At the convoy, 750 patients were examined in 14 clinics and were given medicaments for free. In addition, 54 cases were transferred to Tanta University Hospitals to get the needed checkups and to continue their treatment for free. Literacy exams were taken by 4 citizens. Veterinary care services were presented to more than 4451 head of cattle and birds with participation of many academic staff members, doctors and pharmacists.
Prof. Mahmoud Selim confirmed that the university is keen on organizing medical convoys to the neediest villages in Gharbia governorate to offer medical, therapeutic and social services to citizens based on the university’s social role as a center of expertise that supports development partners. It aims to improve the services offered to citizens with participation of efficient specialists. In addition, he commended the efforts exerted by all personnel of the university who are responsible for organizing the medical convoys.
It is worth noting that patients were examined at the convoy in many medical specialties as follows: 39 patients were examined in neurosurgery, 57 in pediatrics, 97 in orthopedic surgery, 106 in dermatology, 75 in internal medicine, 43 in urology, 84 in ENT, 11 in general surgery, 39 in the chest clinic, 1 in neuropsychiatry, 113 in ophthalmology, 11 in cardiovascular surgery, 30 in the clinic of health initiatives, and 44 in the analysis clinic.
Moreover, literacy exams were held at the convoy in coordination with the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education. Academic staff from Faculty of Nursing gave educational lectures to citizens of the villages on early detection of breast cancer, its symptoms and self-check for it, diabetes and hypertension, psychiatric diseases, how to discover and treat them, maternal and neonatal health, complications of diabetes and how to deal with diabetic foot.
