Offering Medical Care Services to 1072 Citizens in Zefta District and Organizing Educational Symposiums for Thousands of Citizens Prof. Mahmoud Selim, “A New Clinic for Hematologic Diseases and Blood Cancers at the Convoys for the First Time.”
In coordination with Decent Life Foundation, Tanta University organized a comprehensive developmental convoy in Abo Ali village located in Zefta district to examine patients and to give them medicaments for free under patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Acting President of the University, in attendance of Prof. Mahmoud Selim, University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Loay Al-Ahwal, Vice Dean of Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Sahar Al-Haggar, Vice Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy for Community Service and Environmental Development.
At the convoy, 1072 patients were examined in 14 clinics and were given medicaments for free. In addition, 73 cases were transferred to Tanta University Hospitals to get the needed checkups and to continue their treatment for free. Literacy exams were taken by 40 citizens. Veterinary care services were presented to more than 2875 head of cattle and birds with participation of many academic staff members, doctors and pharmacists.
Prof. Mahmoud Selim affirmed that the university is keen on improving the medical services through finding out the real needs of citizens who visit the convoys. He indicated that this improvement aligns with the university’s role in presenting social services in the neediest villages in Gharbia governorate. He declared that a new clinic for hematologic diseases and blood Cancers is held for the first time at the convoy with presence of specialized consultants from Blood Unit of the Internal Medicine Hospital to examine patients for free.
It is worth noting that patients were examined at the convoy in many medical specialties as follows: 47 patients were examined in neurosurgery, 102 in pediatrics, 118 in orthopedic surgery, 142 in dermatology, 94 in internal medicine, 48 in urology, 94 in ENT, 17 in general surgery, 49 in the chest clinic, 22 in neuropsychiatry, 104 in ophthalmology, 21 in cardiovascular surgery, 150 in the clinic of health initiatives, and 64 in the laboratory clinic.
Moreover, immediate literacy tests were held in coordination with the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education. Academic staff from Faculty of Nursing gave educational lectures to citizens of the villages on early detection of breast cancer, its symptoms and self-check for it, diabetes and hypertension, psychiatric diseases, how to discover and treat them, maternal and neonatal health, complications of diabetes and how to deal with diabetic foot.
