Prof. Mahmoud Selim, “Activities of the convoys are carried out through dynamic and interactive planning that aligns with actual community needs.”
Tanta University has continued to launch its developmental convoys as part of its community service activities under the presidential initiative “A New Beginning for Human Development”. The latest convoy took place in Al-Baga village, Kafr El-Zayat district, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Acting President of Tanta University, and in the presence of Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Sahar El-Haggar, Vice Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Loay Al-Ahwal, Vice Dean of Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Hager Alam Al-Din, Executive Manager of the Main Center for Economic Units at Tanta University.
The convoy provided medical examinations for 891 citizens across nine medical specialties, including pediatrics, orthopedic surgery, dermatology, internal medicine, urology, chest diseases, ophthalmology, cardiology and vascular diseases, gynecology, and national health initiatives. All diagnosed cases received the necessary medications free of charge, while 55 cases were referred to Tanta University Hospitals for further examinations and treatment at no cost.
Prof. Mahmoud Selim affirmed that the convoys of Tanta University are aligned with both the philosophical and executive aspects of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research. Their activities are designed through dynamic and interactive planning to address community needs at national, regional, and local levels.
It is worth noting that Main Center for Economic and Special Units participated in the convoy, particularly in the economic empowerment of women and small and micro-enterprises. These initiatives aim to enhance family income and improve living standards. Several women and girls from the village registered for attending training courses provided by the university’s Community Service Sector under Sanayat Masr (Egyptian Artisans) initiative. These courses cover various fields, including tailoring, sewing, first aid, household product manufacturing (such as soap and detergents), and handicrafts.
Prof. Selim further noted that the sector could support these training programs by offering practical training in the university’s relevant public service centers and faculty workshops, such as those at Faculty of Specific Education and Faculty of Applied Arts.
