Visit of a Delegation from Tanta University and the Ministry of Social Solidarity to SOS Children’s Village
Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, and in the presence of Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, a delegation from Tanta University and the Ministry of Social Solidarity visited SOS Children’s Village in Tanta.
In the context of enhancing Tanta University’s societal role and supporting the most vulnerable groups, Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Tanta University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, visited SOS Children’s Village in Tanta, accompanied by Ms. Hosnaa Ahmed, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Gharbia Governorate.
Prof. Selim declared that the visit aimed to create a joint initiative between Tanta University and the Ministry of Social Solidarity to provide IQ testing and skills development services for children in orphanages and shelter institutions, including SOS Children’s Villages.
Moreover, Prof. Selim highlighted the importance of this cooperation, indicating that Tanta University is committed to its community service role, and considers active participation a key principle within the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, in line with the objectives of Egypt’s Vision 2030. He further stressed that this initiative is a practical step towards the early identification of children’s abilities and needs, and toward providing the necessary support to empower and integrate them into society.
During the visit, which was also attended by Dr. Sara El-Okl, Director of the Childhood Care and Development Center at Faculty of Education, Tanta University, along with a specialized team of academic staff members and psychologists, intelligence tests were conducted for 13 children using the “Binet” intelligence scale. The children’s skills were also assessed, and the “Conners” test was applied to three cases to detect attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Regular sessions will continue to be held for skills development, guidance, and behavior modification.
