Prof. Mahmoud Selim:

   Within the framework of Tanta University’s pioneering societal role, and as part of the activities of the presidential initiative “Decent Life,” in support of the “Green Village” initiative, the university organized an advanced expanded development convoy in Tefhana El-Azab village, located in Zefta District, in cooperation with Gharbia Governorate. The convoy was held under the auspices of M. G. Ashraf El-Gendy, Gharbia Governor, and Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President.

    The convoy activities attracted high-level participation, including Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Tanta University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Mahmoud Eissa, Deputy Governor of Gharbia, and M.G. Diaa El-Din Mohamed, Head of Zefta City and District.

    Various faculties of the university took part in the convoy, including the faculties of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Science, Applied Arts, Law, and Agriculture, in addition to the centers and special units affiliated with the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector. These included the Main Center for Sustainable Training, the Main Center for Special Economic Centers and Units, and the Main Center for Community Services, reflecting Tanta University’s strategic vision aimed at providing integrated community services.

   The convoy targeted reaching the largest number of citizens according to their diverse needs, encompassing awareness activities, economic empowerment, psychological and career counseling, afforestation, in addition to distinguished medical services.

    Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President of Tanta University for Community Service and Environmental Development, emphasized the importance of active participation in major national initiatives, including the “Green Village” initiative, extending appreciation, gratitude, and pride to His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his sincere national vision for the development of all sectors of Egypt, including rural villages as a fundamental pillar in building sustainable economic foundations. He also stressed the necessity of adopting a comprehensive executive framework that integrates both material and human components within villages across social, demographic, economic, and environmental development dimensions, in a manner that ensures sustainability.

   Prof. Selim explained that the university was keen to offer a package of executive programs to meet citizens’ development needs through innovation and development laboratories, awareness and introductory activities, and economic empowerment programs. This was in addition to opening registration for digital literacy courses in cooperation with the National Council for Women and the Nour Misr Charity Foundation, as well as courses in innovation skills, entrepreneurship, and the English language.

    He added that the participation included a set of new and innovative activities aimed at transforming rural villages from model villages into smart green model villages, through launching a smart irrigation model, a hydroponic agriculture model, healthy and safe food awareness activities, rural environmental awareness activities, training farmers in good agricultural practices, afforestation, and recycling agricultural waste for citrus trees.

    For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Eissa, Deputy Governor of Gharbia, commended the partnership and continuous cooperation with Tanta University, describing it as a strategic ally that possesses the material and human capacities contributing effectively to enhancing the value of developmental outputs aligned with the plans and strategies of Gharbia Governorate.

    During the convoy, needed medicaments were distributed for free, and medical examinations were provided to 656 patients across various specialties. 94 patients were examined in orthopedic surgery, 90 in ophthalmology, 54 in internal medicine, 35 in urology, 52 in ENT, 52 in dermatology, 44 in pediatrics, 28 in neurosurgery, 28 in psychiatry and neurology, 22 in chest diseases, 21 in cardiovascular diseases, and 14 in general surgery. In addition, the Veterinary Medicine Directorate offered veterinary services for over 186 head of cattle and 2660 poultry in cooperation with Gharbia Governorate and the university.
