Tanta University Enhances Women’s Empowerment Efforts and Launches Some “Psychological and Digital” Initiatives

Under the patronage of Tanta University President and during the meeting of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit, Tanta University announced the launch of some psychological and digital initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s empowerment.

   Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Selim, Tanta University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, chaired the meeting held by the Board of Directors of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit, held on December 22, 2025. The meeting was attended by Prof. Mamdouh Nassef El-Masry, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law; and Prof. Mohamed Sayed Hantira, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

   The meeting was also attended by representatives of the National Council for Women, including Ms. Amira Al-Tatawy, Acting Rapporteur of the National Council for Women, and Ms. Shaimaa Ghanem, a member of the Council’s Technical Secretariat. Participants further included Prof. Mohamed Said Abdel Magid, Head of the Sociology Department; Prof. Shaimaa Shokry Khater, Head of the Psychology Department; Prof. Amal Abdel Sattar, Executive Manager of the Main Center for Community Services; Prof. Sara Ahmed El-Okl, Director of the Unit; and Mr. Ahmed Rashad Shalaby, Secretary-General of the university.

    Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Selim highlighted the strategic importance of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit within the university’s organizational structure, emphasizing that all proposed activities and initiatives are fully consistent with the national strategic visions of the Egypt for the empowerment and protection of women. In addition, he declared that through this unit, the university seeks to provide a safe environment that integrates psychological awareness, digital skills, and social empowerment in a manner that serves the goals of sustainable development and enhances the university’s role as a beacon of enlightenment and community service in the Delta region.

    During the meeting, the council reviewed some qualitative initiatives aimed at supporting women and the university community. Approval was granted for a proposal to update the unit’s website to include the strategic plan, complaint links, and volunteering opportunities, in addition to launching an official Facebook page to ensure that awareness services reach all segments of society. The session also approved the establishment of the “Together” Psychological Support Center as an affiliate of the unit, specializing in providing psychological and behavioral counseling programs for abused women, along with the launch of specialized training workshops to improve psychological resilience and overcome the negative effects of trauma.

   In the context of enhancing digital safety, the council approved the launch of the “Safe Digitization” campaign, which aims to provide a secure digital environment for students and train them online to overcome toxic relationships and behaviors. It was also decided to organize a series of workshops entitled “Anger Management Skills and Stress-Coping Strategies” under the slogan “A Safe University Environment”, to develop students’ life skills and self-confidence. The decisions further included field activities through the launch of the “Safety Ambassadors in Schools” program, in cooperation with the Gharbia Directorate of Education, to help volunteers deliver awareness workshops for school students across the governorate.

    On the academic and community research level, the council approved conducting a field study on “Toxic Relationships and Workplace Violence”, targeting female faculty members, administrative staff, and female employees at the university. Approval was also granted for organizing an extensive training course at a reduced fee on “Life Skills Development and Family Counseling”, covering topics such as positive parenting, marital conflict management, and decision-making. In addition, a workshop entitled “Life Is a Decision, Say No to Addiction” was approved to raise awareness of the dangers of addiction and methods of treatment. The council further endorsed a proposal to organize the issuance of accredited certificates for participation in activities, ensuring effectiveness and adherence to university procedures.
