Tanta University Signs a Cooperation Protocol with “Kheir Baladna” Association to Enhance Aftercare and Rehabilitate “Homeless Children”

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, University President, Tanta University has signed a cooperation protocol with “Kheir Baladna Association” to enhance aftercare services and rehabilitate “homeless children.”

Tanta University signed today a joint cooperation protocol with “Kheir Baladna Association for Sustainable Development”, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, University President. The agreement was signed by Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Mr. Mostafa Mahmoud El-Khouly, Executive Director of the Association. This protocol stems from the university’s vision that children are the cornerstone of sustainable national progress, with a particular focus on the category of “homeless children” to ensure a better future for them.

Prof. Mahmoud Selim pointed out the strategic importance of this cooperation, noting that creating effective community partnerships with civil society organizations constitutes a fundamental pillar in Tanta University’s vision of transitioning toward fourth-generation universities. He emphasized the university’s commitment to moving beyond its traditional roles and directly contributing to addressing pressing societal issues. This transformation strategy places social responsibility at the core of academic work, ensuring the achievement of sustainable development and the provision of a decent life for the most vulnerable groups through innovative scientific and practical solutions.

The protocol aims to establish a scientific framework and a clear action plan to prepare children residing in social care institutions for the “aftercare” phase — the stage following their departure from institutional care due to reaching the legal age or transitioning to independent employment. Under this cooperation, the university will provide comprehensive support to the care institution through specialists who will train and qualify both children and supervisors according to a scientific methodology that ensures the graduation of a generation capable of contributing positively to society.

The university’s support encompasses multiple dimensions. On the social and psychological level, it includes training the supervisors of case management programs, psychological counseling, and behavior modification. It also extends to the educational and cultural aspects through workshops aimed at simplifying science and mathematics, as well as training in computer skills. In addition, the program seeks to nurture talents in the fields of arts, music, and theater, and to organize sports and recreational activities to identify and develop promising talented athletes.

Furthermore, the protocol stipulates cooperation with the University Hospitals to conduct periodic medical examinations for the children, and the engagement of the Faculty of Law’s expertise to review the legal status of each case and resolve issues related to official documentation. The children will also be integrated into the university’s scouting activities and summer camps, while students from various faculties will be given opportunities for field training within the care institution to gain practical experience in working with this group.
