Introduction
Illiteracy is a national issue that has social, economic, and political impacts hindering progress and sustainable development. It is one of the most serious problems that face developing countries in the meantime. Thereupon, Tanta University does not spare any effort to disseminate literacy and adult education as literacy is a cultural developmental national concept. It helps with the progress and growth of the surrounding community coping with Egypt’s sustainable development strategy 2030. The ultimate goal of the university is achievement of more progress towards Illiteracy-free Egypt.

At the Level of Egyptian Universities, Tanta University is the First in Literacy
Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, “Literacy is a national duty and the basis of progress and development.”
Tanta University came first at the level of Egyptian universities in the National Project of Literacy according to the results issued by the General Authority of Adult Education in July 2021, as the university could educate 12525 illiterate persons.
Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, University President, affirmed that the university is keen on enhancement of Egypt’s vision 2030 and contribution to development strategy of human resources launched by President\ Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, in the context of the university’s strategy of disseminating knowledge as part of its social pioneering role.
Moreover, University President commended the positive participation of university students in the National Project of Literacy in the framework of implementing the cooperation protocol signed with the General Authority of Adult Education.
Honoring Tanta University for Gaining the 1st Rank in Literacy
Tanta University held a celebration as it gained the first rank in literacy at the level of Egyptian universities. During the celebration, Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, Tanta University President, honored faculties of Arts, Education, and Commerce that participated in the National Project of Literacy in attendance of Prof. Tarek Rahmy, Gharbia Governor, and Prof. Ashor Amry, Head of the Executive Body of the General Authority of Adult Education.
In the speech he delivered, Prof. Mahmoud Zaki affirmed that Tanta University enhances Egypt’s vision 2030 and takes part in human development strategy launched by President\ Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi through the National Project of Literacy.
He declared that Tanta University gained the first rank at the level of Egyptian universities in literacy and adult education as it managed to educate 12525 illiterate persons based on the results issued by the General Authority of Adult Education in July 2021.
