Microsoft Student Partners program is not a profitable one. It aims to find out and distinguish some students who are talented at academic Microsoft programs. In addition, it is an annual program focusing on integrating technology, innovation and shared experience between the academic environment and industry. Also, it aims to support students in Microsoft annual competition; ‘Imagine Cup’, Microsoft programs for developers and the academic alliance ‘MSDN AA’. Microsoft EMEA Microsoft Student Partners program began seven years ago in fifteen countries. It was put into action in Microsoft sector for Europe, Middle East and Africa; Microsoft EMEA, in the onset of 2006. Nowadays, there are more than 1450 partners of students in 104 countries around the world.
In Egypt, the program began in 2006. At present, it exists in the following universities:
Cairo University, Helwan University, Ain Shams University, Alexandria University, the American University in Cairo, the German University in Cairo, the High Institute of Technology and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. .
Two classes were graduated including 30 partners of students, from those universities. Moreover, from the academic year 2008-2009 Microsoft Egypt Corporation seeks to expand its programs and make them prevalent in the Egyptian universities which have not joined them yet, so that we can greatly make use of students on Egypt’s level and increase technological awareness, believing in students’ abilities to help bridge the digital gap between Egypt and the advanced countries via these programs. In this respect, Tanta University was chosen as the first national university to apply these expansions at.

Activity Fields:


Microsoft Student Partners exist inside the campus, to make presentations and symposiums related to the technology used in advanced Microsoft programs, as part of Microsoft Software for Developers of Network; the academic alliance MSDNAA. In addition, Microsoft Student Partners announce, support, take part in Microsoft international competition for students; ‘Imagine Cup’, ask students to get invitations to attend the conferences and technological events organized by Microsoft Corporation and invite students to attend Microsoft student festival that is held annually.   • Holding symposiums and periodical workshops explaining one of Microsoft technologies, products or one of the technologies which students would like to know more about. In addition to, making presentations to raise students’ technological awareness.
  • Establishing a technological assembly under patronage of a teaching staff member that will be in charge of disseminating Microsoft technology among students, through holding periodical symposiums for interested students, setting study timetable, holding workshops and organizing collective projects for students.
  • اParticipation in encouraging, supporting and helping students who would like to join and who are registered in Microsoft competition ‘Imagine Cup’, through holding publicity work sessions about the competition, distributing booklets, sticking posters about the competition, making advertising campaign via e-mail groups and special students’ forums.
  • Continuous guidance and direction for participant teams in ‘Imagine Cup’ competition.
  • Seeking to connect curricula and technological development through making workshop to explain software and new technologies related to curricula, under supervision of the subject lecturer.
  • Helping students willing to get license and download MSDN AA software by giving a student a form to write down his or her data; name, year, national number and e-mail. In addition to attaching a photocopy of university ID card to assure that he or she is a university student as to faculties that do not have free university e-mail. Via e-mail a student gets a special user name and password to be able to download the required programs free and legally.
  • Participation in distributing free editions of Microsoft software and means to develop students’ skills in information technology and programming
  • Offering a group of software, for developers, issued once every two months by Developers Department in Microsoft sector for Europe, Middle East and Africa for developing countries, that is known as MSDN Community Distribution.
  • Distributing booklets and sticking ads about times of Microsoft symposiums held inside the faculty.
  • Inviting and registering students willing to attend Microsoft Student Festival.
  • Inviting and registering students willing to attend conferences and symposiums organized or attended by Microsoft, such as Microsoft EDC “Egyptian Developers Conference” which is held annually.
  • The official means of communication between Microsoft on one hand and students and university teaching staff members on the other.
  • Informing teaching staff members and the assistant staff with programs granted by Microsoft to the academic sector.
  • Issuing many editions monthly of the wall magazine Microsoft Tech-Zine to raise the awareness about Microsoft sectors and giving the opportunity to all students from all specializations to be informed about them.

The projects offered by Microsoft Student Partners direct students having innovation and ambition in the technological field, especially the technology produced by Microsoft Corporation. Moreover, these projects seek to raise students’ knowledge level and to facilitate communication among the academic environment, Microsoft Corporation and other corporations in the field of information technology i.e. Microsoft Partners.

Through the MSDN AA program, any university student is allowed to obtain a licensed copy of an integrated package of software that is useful in all disciplines during their studies and after graduation. The version includes a complete free software package as a grant from the Microsoft Corporation, including: Visual Studio, Windows XP, Windows Vista Business Edition, Service Packs, Development Kit, Office Tools Kit and several server and database management software.
