A Symposium on Methods of Elevating World Ranking of Tanta University

Prof. Abdel Hakim Abdel Khalek Khalil, Tanta University President, asserted the significance of attaining an advanced rank for Tanta University in the world ranking of universities because that had an effect on encouragement of universities to offer better educational services, to increase the scientific value of research issued by that university, to raise the stature of a university as for holding foreign conventions and to connect the educational institutions to their surrounding community.   

These words were mentioned in the symposium held on current August 19th at Tanta University under the title "Criteria of Universities Ranking and Methods of Elevating the Rank of Tanta University". Pivots of the symposium were the most important international rankings, current stature of the University, mechanisms for raising the rank of the University and inauguration of the new site of the University.    

In the same context, Prof. Ibrahim Abdel Wahab Salem, University Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, affirmed that upgrading the level of the University started form advancement of collective integrative scientific research that participated in improvement of world ranking of the University. He called upon teaching staff members at the University to create their blogs on the scientific sites: Google Scholar and ResearchGate and to translate their scientific papers and upload them on these blogs. 

Furthermore, Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Ezzat, Manager of Electronic Portal Project, tackled the most serious problems of ranking represented in difference in criteria among various institutions, difficulty of unifying methods of collecting data, unavailability of data of some institutions, the increased interest given to papers published in international journals that had impact factor and ignoring papers written in languages other than English, weak coverage of journals issued in poor countries, lack of interest in technology provided by organizations, ignoring human sciences, and giving whole marks of joint research to all authors despite their different countries.       

The symposium was held in attendance of Prof. Tarek Al-Shafee, Manager of University Development Center; Prof. Abdel Aziz Abdel Dayem, Chief Information Officer; a number of deans, vice deans and teaching staff at the University.
