Tanta University Enhances Promotion System to Support Interdisciplinary Research in Line with Higher Education Directives
In line with the strategic directions led by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and consistent with the Supreme Council of Universities' decisions regarding the formation of an Interdisciplinary Sciences Sector Committee, Tanta University announced the development of its academic promotion system to enhance the recognition of interdisciplinary research across various scientific fields. This aims to support innovation and achieve knowledge integration.
This direction coincides with the Supreme Council of Universities' decision to extend and form the university education sector committees for the new term (2025–2028), which commenced in January 2025. This includes the establishment of a specialized committee for interdisciplinary studies, with the goal of developing a comprehensive framework for enhancing interdisciplinary fields according to international academic standards and labor market demands.
The Tanta University administration emphasized that the new promotion system gives special attention to collaborative research that combines different scientific disciplines. This research is evaluated according to flexible criteria that reflect its interdisciplinary nature and its scientific and applied impact. The system also encourages faculty members to participate in multidisciplinary research teams, contributing to the development of innovative solutions to contemporary challenges.
Professor Mohamed Hussein Mahmoud, President of Tanta University, explained that this approach aligns with national policies aimed at developing higher education and linking its outcomes to labor market needs, especially given the expansion of interdisciplinary and integrated study programs, which have become a key pillar in building graduates' capabilities and preparing them for future jobs.
The statement also indicated that the university is working to provide comprehensive administrative and academic support for researchers, including facilitating collaboration between different faculties, offering incentives for joint research, and integrating the outputs of interdisciplinary research into evaluation and promotion criteria.
Through this step, Tanta University affirms its commitment to fostering a culture of multidisciplinary scientific research, thus reinforcing its position as a leading academic institution contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals and the Egyptian state's vision for developing the higher education and scientific research system.
