Courses of Computer and Internet
On May 31, 1996, University Council previously approved to begin implementation of computer course which is a requirement of registration for master’s and PhD degrees.
University Council also decided on October 15, 2000 to begin implementation of computer training courses for students of postgraduate diploma at the University with effect from the academic year 2000-2001. These courses are condition a student must meet to gain postgraduate diploma. A student is not allowed to take the exam of the second year in two-year diplomas or exam of the first year in one-year diploma unless he passes these courses. It should be noted that fees of the course at each level are as follows:
Students of Postgraduate Studies Diplomas (preparatory level): 180 EGP
Students of Master’s degree (the first level): 300 EGP
PhD Students (the second level): 360 EGP
On June 18, 2001, Postgraduate Studies and Research Council decided to make enrollment at internet courses (the first and second level) one of conditions of enrollment for master’s and PhD degrees according to adopted rules. Procedures of discussion cannot be finished unless these courses are passe
Cases of Exemption from Taking Computer and Internet Courses
• Faculty of Law student is not exempted in case of enrollment in the second diploma to gain master’s degree in the framework of taking two diplomas that are equivalent to the master’s degree. There can be exemption in cast of enrollment for the second diploma that does not qualify for gaining the master’s degree. (It is the decision of the executive committee on June 16, 2013 that is ratified by the supreme committee on June 17, 2013 and by University Council in its session from June 17, 2013 to June 30, 2013).
• Blind students are exempted from taking written exams and are examined orally provided that they attend the courses. (It is the decision of the executive committee on June 16, 2013 that is ratified by the supreme committee on June 17, 2013 and by University Council in its session from June 17, 2013 to June 30, 2013).
• Students who apply for enrollment in postgraduate diplomas (at their original faculties) and who previously took a computer course (during their study of the General Education Diploma) at Faculty of Education are exempted if the scientific content of the course which they took is the same as the scientific content of the courses presented by the center of IT training. (It is the decision of the executive committee on September 9, 2013 that is ratified by the supreme committee on September 23, 2013 and by University Council on September 30, 2013).
• In its session held on June 28, 2011, the supreme committee of computer and internet courses according to the approval of University Council on June 28, 2011 decided to approve the decision of executive committee of computer courses made in its session held on June 15, 2011 regarding approval for exempting students who gained master’s degree in the field of computer from taking the computer course (the second level). They only have only to pass exams of courses as one of conditions for PhD thesis discussion.
• In its session held on September 16, 2012, the supreme committee of computer and internet whose decision was ratified by University Council on September 26, 2012 decided to not exempt postgraduate students who apply for diplomas in the academic year 2012-2013 from taking the computer and internet course as they previously took first level or second level course during enrollment for master’s or PhD degrees. This does not apply to students who have bachelor’s degree, master’s or PhD degrees in the field of computer because they are not demanded to take the courses.
• The executive committee of computer and internet courses agreed that a student pay 50% of the course fees if he does not attend the course (session of August 18, 2009). The executive committee is ratified by the supreme committee and University Council on February 29, 2009.
• In its session held on September 16, 2012, the supreme committee of computer and internet whose decision was ratified by University Council on September 26, 2012 decided to exempt postgraduate students who applied for the second diploma in the academic year 2012-2013 from taking the computer course as they previously took the diploma course during enrollment for the first diploma as well as students who were exempted from taking the course in the first diploma because they had ICDL certificate. Exemption begins from the academic year 2013-2014 for students with the same cases if they have passed in the course of the first diploma in the academic year 2012-2013.
• In its session held on December 17, 2013, the supreme committee of computer and internet whose decision was ratified by University Council on December 31, 2013 decided to exempt students who apply for enrollment in postgraduate diploma at their original faculties and who previously took the “preparatory annual” computer course during their study of diplomas of Hospitals Administration, Business Administration, Marketing or Banking Studies at Faculty of Commerce if the scientific content of the course the student took is the same as the scientific content of the courses granted by IT training center.
• In its session held on June3, 2012, the supreme committee of computer and internet whose decision was ratified by University Council on June 6, 2012 decided the following: Not to exempt any student from computer and internet course in all its levels except for students who gained the bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer. They are not demanded to take or pass the course with all its levels (preparatory, first and second) with effect from the academic year 2012-2013.
