In the Second Edition of the Arab Ranking for Universities (ARU) 2024, Tanta University Advances by Two Ranks Compared to Last Year and is Ranked 15th among 180 Arab Universities

Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Acting President of Tanta University, announced a new achievement for the university in world rankings; the university was listed in the second edition of the Arab Ranking for Universities (ARU) 2024. Tanta University advanced by two ranks and was the 15th at the Arab level among 180 ranked universities in the Arab World. This represents an increase of 65 universities compared to last year, when the ARU included 115 Arab universities. Moreover, Tanta University maintained its 6th rank locally, despite the number of Egyptian universities in the ranking increasing by 20, reaching 48 participating Egyptian universities this year.

Prof. Mohamed Hussein affirmed that this accomplishment reflects the university's ongoing efforts to enhance its academic and research position at the local, regional, and international levels. These efforts align with the university’s strategic plan regarding improvement in international rankings and boosting its competitiveness among universities. He indicated that the university has recently prioritized improving the quality of education and research, as well as fostering international partnerships, contributing to an enhanced reputation both regionally and globally.

Furthermore, Prof. Hatem Amin added that the university’s strategic plan aims to develop scientific research and maximize its outcomes to address societal issues. He highlighted that the Arab Ranking for Universities (ARU) platform was launched for the first time in 2023 by the Association of Arab Universities, the League of Arab States, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils (FASRC). The ranking aims to serve as a key motivator for academics by emphasizing the quality of education and research while encouraging universities to change into the third and fourth generations of higher education institutions. The ranking incorporates two open access indicators, through promoting international relations and collaboration with end-users, while encouraging researchers to transform their findings into products beneficial to society.

It is worth noting that the Arab Ranking for Universities (ARU) relies on four main indicators:

1. Teaching and Learning (40%).

2. Scientific Research (30%).

3. Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation (15%).

4. International and Local Collaboration and Community Service (15%).

Each indicator is measured using nine carefully selected criteria, weighted to reflect their significance.
