In 1962, President of the United Arab Republic issued Decree No. 1647 to establish Alexandria Faculty of Medicine in Tanta.

Faculty of Medicine was established in 1963 with the republican decree No. 1468 in Gharbia governorate.

President of the United Arab Republic issued Decree No. 1088 to establish new faculties in some universities. These included Faculty of Commerce in Tanta, whose original name was the High Commercial Institution in Tanta affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education, Faculties of Science and Teachers in Tanta and Faculty of Agriculture in Kafr El-Sheikh, whose original name was the High Agricultural Institution in Kafr El-Sheikh affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education. These all were affiliated to Alexandria University.

President of the United Arab Republic issued Decree No. 1578 to establish branches for Cairo, Alexandria and Ain Shams Universities. Therefore, a branch for Alexandria University was established in Tanta. This branch included Faculties of Medicine, Commerce, Science and Teachers in Tanta and Faculty of Agriculture in Kafr El-Sheikh.

President of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued Decree No. (49) for universities organization and cancelled the previous Decree No. 184 in 1958. It stated, in its 2nd article, paragraph (e), establishing Middle Delta University in Tanta, whose name was modified to be Tanta University. As a result, and upon the Presidential Decree No. 54 in 1973, Tanta University has become the fifth university, after the Universities of Cairo, Alexandria, Ain Shams, and Assiut.

• The title of the University was modified to Tanta University. Thus, it became the fifth University in the Arab Republic of Egypt after universities of Cairo, Alexandria, Ain Shams and Assiut.

• Faculties of the University were successively founded. They became 18 faculties; 12 of them in Tanta and 6 in Kafr El-Sheikh branch.
• Faculty of Commerce was established in 1973.
• Menoufia University was separated from Tanta University.
• Faculty of Arts was established in 1973.

• The title of the University was modified to Tanta University. Thus, it became the fifth University in the Arab Republic of Egypt after universities of Cairo, Alexandria, Ain Shams and Assiut.
• Study at Faculty of Pharmacy, Tanta University, began in the academic year 1973\1974 as a Department at Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University.
• Faculty of Dentistry at Tanta University was founded in the academic year 1973\1974. It was a Department at Faculty of Medicine.

• Decree No. 924 was issued by the Prime Minister on amendment of the same bylaw and adding Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Technology in Shebin El-Kom and Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Menouf to faculties of Tanta University.
• Establishment of Faculty of Arts at Tanta University was finished according to decree No. 809 of 1975 so as to be a source of knowledge in the field of human sciences.
• Faculty of Agriculture was established at Tanta University based on decree No. 809 of 1975 and according to the executive bylaw of Act No. 49 of 1972 about universities’ organization.

• Faculties of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law, Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, and Education in Kafr El-Sheikh and the High Nursing Institute affiliated to Faculty of Medicine were added to Tanta University.
• Republican decree No. 1142 was issued on November 25, 1976 about founding Faculty of Engineering at Tanta University
• Menoufia University was separated. Therefore, faculties of Engineering, Technology, Education, and Agriculture in Shebin El-Kom and Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Menouf were no more affiliated to Tanta University.

• Faculty of Education in Kafr El-Sheikh branch was established in 1977.
• In the academic year 1976\1977 Faculty of Dentistry at Tanta University was separated from Faculty of Medicine. Equipping its permanent headquarters was finished .

• President of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued Decree No. 278 to establish a branch of Tanta University in Kafr El-Sheikh, which included Faculties of Agriculture and Education
• Faculty of Pharmacy at Tanta University was transferred to the Medical Campus in a permanent building for the Faculty that was equipped with the latest scientific devices in order to raise the level of health service and to solve pharmaceutical problems.

Faculty of Nursing at Tanta University began its educational mission under the title “The High Nursing Institute” in 1982 according to decree No. 642 of 1976 issued by the Prime Minister. Duration of study was four years and graduated students gained Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Sciences. Actual study started at the institute in the academic year 1982\1983.

  Faculty of Engineering was established at Tanta University. It was a governmental Faculty in 1984 based on the republican decree No. 114 issued on November 25, 1976.

 President of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued Decree No. 329 to add Faculty of Specific Education to Tanta University and another one to the University branch of Kafr El-Sheikh. .

President of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued Decree No. 200 to make the Higher Institute of Nursing independent from Faculty of Medicine.

President of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued Decree No. 129 to cancel the branch of Tanta University in Kafr El-Sheikh and establish Kafr El-Shiekh University. It is worthy mentioning that Tanta University played an essential role in establishing that new university.

Faculty of Medicine gained accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education

Faculty of Engineering gained accreditation in August 2015

• Faculty of Science gained accreditation in March 2016
• Faculty of Pharmacy gained accreditation in July 2016

• Prime Minister issued decree No. 2761 of 2018 regarding establishment of Faculty of Computer and Information and Faculty of Applied Arts to be added to faculties of Tanta University.
• Faculty of Physical Education gained accreditation in March 2018.

• Faculty of Dentistry gained accreditation in 2019.
• Faculty of Nursing gained accreditation in 2019.
