Students from Tanta University participated in the National Elite Men’s Boxing Championship, hosted at the Military Institution Arena in Ismailia from April 4 to April 10, 2026. The university’s athletes achieved advanced rankings amid intense competition, resulting in the selection of four students to join the Egyptian national team and represent the country in international competitions.
The championship witnessed remarkable performances by the university’s students. Student Fares Adel Metwally, enrolled in the Faculty of Sports Sciences, won the gold medal in the 80 kg category and was selected for the Egyptian national team to represent Egypt in the World Cup in Brazil. Student Ahmed Khaled Badr, also from the Faculty of Sports Sciences, secured third place and the bronze medal in the 55 kg category and joined the national team. Student Seif Adel Metwally, from the Faculty of Law, achieved third place and the bronze medal in the 75 kg category. Meanwhile, student Anas Abdullah, from the Faculty of Computers and Information, won second place and the silver medal in the 50 kg category.
Professor Dr. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, expressed his sincere congratulations and great pride in the distinguished performance demonstrated by the university’s students. He affirmed that supporting athletic talent is a top priority for the university, emphasizing its commitment to providing all forms of support, resources, and facilities necessary to sustain their excellence. He also stressed the university’s dedication to overcoming financial and logistical challenges and to offering incentives and rewards that motivate students to reach podium finishes and elevate the name of both the university and Egypt in all arenas.
For his part, Prof. El-Sayed El-Agouz affirmed that the university is implementing a comprehensive plan to transform sports activities into a daily culture and a structured approach to building well-rounded student personalities. This is achieved by providing full support and care to outstanding students, expanding training camps, and intensifying competitions and sporting events aimed at identifying and nurturing emerging talents.
