Tanta University continues the activities of the “Our Conservation… Our Future” initiative under the slogan “Save It… Illuminate It,” launched by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to rationalize energy consumption and enhance energy efficiency. The initiative comes within the framework of supporting the state’s efforts to address the current global energy crisis, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of the University, and Prof. El-Sayed El-Agouz, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, as part of a comprehensive strategy adopted by the university to reduce energy consumption and transform the campus into a sustainable environment.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein explained that the initiative is based on a package of innovative awareness and implementation measures. The university seeks to expand the “White Roofs and Thermal Insulation” initiative to reduce temperatures inside buildings and minimize reliance on cooling systems. In addition, the university launched the “Small Benban Rooftops” project, which aims to utilize university building rooftops for the installation of solar energy units, marking the beginning of a new phase of dependence on clean and sustainable energy.
The University President added that the initiative has witnessed strong engagement from students of the Faculty of Computers and Information through innovative projects such as “Mishkat,” a student-led initiative for energy conservation, and the “Smart Office” system for intelligent energy management within offices and facilities. The university has also activated the “24 Degrees Celsius” initiative to regulate air conditioning systems at optimal efficiency levels and established the “Energy Ambassadors” team to promote on-ground awareness among students.
Prof. El-Sayed El-Agouz further stated that the university launched an intensive training program in cooperation with the electricity company, including the production of media materials and specialized workshops, in addition to introducing the “Innovative Ideas Competition” and a knowledge league to create a competitive environment that encourages students to develop unconventional solutions to energy challenges.
It is worth noting that the university has already begun implementing the initiative’s timeline through field seminars and awareness activities at the Faculties of Science, Pharmacy, Medicine, and Dentistry, organized by the General Administration of Student Welfare. During the coming period, the university aims to expand the initiative across all faculties and units, further reinforcing its new identity as a green university that invests in its resources to ensure a sustainable future for coming generations.
