An Unprecedented Development Epic in Gharbia: Tanta University Writes a New Chapter in Community Service Through a Massive Digital Map of 1,637 Comprehensive Convoys Reaching Villages and Transforming the Lives of More Than 1.25 Million Citizens Over Four Years

The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Tanta University has launched a comprehensive digital documentation report and an AI-supported analytical digital map, reflecting the pinnacle of academic contribution and societal leadership. This initiative supports the presidential efforts aimed at building the capacities of the Egyptian people and highlights a series of remarkable achievements and a major leap forward in the University's integrated development convoys. Over the period from 2022 to 2026, these convoys reached villages, towns, and border regions across Gharbia Governorate. The report demonstrates how Tanta University is laying the foundation for a community renaissance based on smart planning and advanced spatial intelligence, directing its resources scientifically toward the areas most in need and establishing a benchmark model for utilizing scientific research in service of the nation and its citizens.
Professor Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, affirmed that this distinguished record of developmental achievements reflects the University's unwavering commitment to fulfilling its noble mission. He emphasized that the University continues to dedicate all its scientific and human resources to supporting the State’s development plans and the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030. He also expressed his appreciation to the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector for its innovative and dedicated efforts, which demonstrate that the University serves as a driving force for development and a key partner in shaping a better quality of life for citizens throughout Gharbia Governorate.
The University President added that Tanta University consistently employs scientific research to support smart planning and to direct its comprehensive development convoys toward the villages and border areas most in need, based on precise scientific indicators. He noted that the University's role does not end with the completion of a convoy; rather, it extends to evaluating outcomes, measuring citizen satisfaction, and monitoring critical cases referred to the University Hospitals. This approach ensures continuity of care and provides a model that effectively links scientific research with practical implementation in support of Egypt Vision 2030 and the presidential initiative “Decent Life.”
Professor Hussein also extended his sincere appreciation to the University Hospitals and all their medical, nursing, and administrative personnel, describing them as the cornerstone of the success of this extensive convoy system. He commended the distinguished national and academic contributions of faculty members and highly qualified physicians participating in the convoys from various faculties, including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Science, Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Arts, and Specific Education. He emphasized that the cohesion and dedication of this exceptional human network constitute the true foundation of this unprecedented developmental progress, enabling the delivery of high-quality, free medical, educational, and advisory services that have earned the trust and satisfaction of citizens across all targeted communities.
For his part, Professor Mahmoud Selim, Vice President of Tanta University for Community Service and Environmental Development, explained that the figures generated through the analytical digital map reveal an unprecedented historical achievement that reflects the scale of effort and unlimited support provided by the sector. He expressed his gratitude to Professor Mohamed Hussein, the current University President, and Professor Mahmoud Zaki, the former President, for their substantial support. He noted that the University successfully launched a total of 1,637 comprehensive development convoys, which effectively provided care, support, and treatment to 1,256,729 beneficiaries throughout the governorate.
He further indicated that these remarkable figures represent an exceptional leap in performance, with an annual growth rate of 55% and an average of 409 comprehensive convoys launched each year. These convoys have delivered awareness, healthcare, and developmental services to more than 314,000 citizens annually, positioning Tanta University among the most impactful and community-oriented educational institutions in the region.
Professor Selim added that this broad developmental movement was not the result of coincidence but rather the culmination of highly precise strategic and operational planning that encompassed all eight districts of Gharbia Governorate without exception. Advanced spatial analyses demonstrated that the University's interventions were closely aligned with the actual and urgent needs of each village and locality. Through a dynamic temporal tracking system, the University ensured the continuous flow of services, equitable distribution of resources, and comprehensive geographical coverage over the years, making the sector a trusted guardian of sustainable development in the heart of the Nile Delta.
He further noted that the functional diversity of these convoys reflects a comprehensive system of care and human development. Medical convoys led the initiative with 560 specialized missions that provided free healthcare services and focused on densely populated areas. These efforts were complemented by 460 large-scale veterinary convoys dedicated to protecting livestock resources and supporting small-scale breeders. In addition, 200 environmental and awareness convoys promoted responsible citizenship and environmental consciousness, while another 200 convoys focused on the economic empowerment of youth and women by creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. Furthermore, 165 convoys and intervention campaigns addressed literacy eradication, talent identification, and emergency relief efforts. Through these integrated initiatives, Tanta University has transformed its full institutional capacity into a beacon of development at the heart of the Delta region.
