Tanta University Consolidates Its International Standing Among the Top 500 Universities in the U.S. News Rankings


   Professor Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, announced that the university has achieved an unprecedented milestone by being ranked among the top 500 universities worldwide in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings 2026–2027. The university advanced by 65 positions globally compared to the previous year, reaching 428th place worldwide among more than 2,250 universities included in this year's edition of the ranking. The university also maintained its 16th position among 111 African universities and its 8th position among 29 Egyptian universities.

   The President added that Tanta University also increased the number of academic disciplines in which it is ranked in the U.S. News classification. The university appeared in 13 academic subjects in this year's edition, compared to 12 subjects in the previous year. Regarding subject-specific rankings, the university was ranked for the first time in Physical Chemistry, achieving 545th place globally. Furthermore, it was ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide in Energy and Fuels, advancing four positions to reach 62nd place globally.

   Professor Mohamed Hussein emphasized that Tanta University's placement at 428th globally and its continuous advancement in the U.S. News rankings constitute a well-deserved recognition of the dedicated efforts made to develop both the university’s research ecosystem and educational processes. He noted that this unprecedented achievement is the result of strict adherence to international standards and the implementation of the objectives outlined in Egypt’s National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research.

   He further stated that the university’s goal extends beyond merely improving ranking positions; it seeks to provide an advanced research environment that fosters innovation and positively enhances the competence and competitiveness of its graduates in both local and international labor markets. He expressed his sincere appreciation to all contributors to this success, including the university vice presidents, college deans, faculty members, researchers, students, administrative staff, and the team at the University Center for International Rankings. He stressed that a spirit of teamwork and dedication remains the fundamental driver behind placing Tanta University in a position befitting its global aspirations.

   Professor Hatem Amin, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, added that the university was also ranked among the top 500 universities worldwide in nine academic disciplines. These rankings included:

• Biology and Biochemistry: 423rd globally

• Computer Science: 852nd globally

• Plant and Animal Science: 225th globally

• Environment and Ecology: 333rd globally

• Clinical and Medical Sciences: 660th globally, advancing 23 positions

• Engineering: 229th globally, advancing 16 positions

• Pharmacology and Toxicology: 188th globally, advancing 11 positions

• Electrical and Electronic Engineering: 453rd globally, advancing 9 positions

• Materials Science: 294th globally, advancing 125 positions

   In addition, the university ranked 885th globally in Physics, improving by 71 positions compared to the previous year, and 479th globally in Chemistry, advancing by 67 positions.

   It is worth noting that the U.S. News Best Global Universities Ranking methodology is based on 13 indicators designed to measure research performance and academic reputation at both regional and international levels. These indicators include:

• Global research reputation (12.5%)

• Regional research reputation (12.5%)

• Publications (10%)

• Books (2.5%)

• Conferences (2.5%)

• Normalized citation impact (10%)

• Total citations (7.5%)

• Number of publications among the top 10% most cited (12.5%)
