Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, received Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, to discuss avenues for supporting and developing the university’s healthcare system and enhancing the role of university hospitals in providing specialized medical services to citizens. The meeting was attended by Prof. Fouad Haras, former President of Tanta University; Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Hatem Amin, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Prof. Mohamed Hantira, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board; Prof. Hassan El-Tatawy, Executive Director of the University Hospitals; the Vice Deans of the Faculty of Medicine; and a number of faculty members.
Following the official reception, Prof. Mohamed Hussein and Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din conducted an extensive inspection tour of the Tanta University Chest Hospital to review the modern medical and infrastructural facilities that have recently been commissioned to serve patients. The hospital comprises six floors and has a capacity of 115 beds. It was designed as a fully integrated medical institution serving the citizens of Gharbia Governorate and the wider Delta region, in accordance with the highest medical and operational standards.
During the tour, Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din commended the hospital’s advanced medical and technological capabilities, noting that what he observed reflects the significant progress achieved by Tanta University’s hospitals and underscores the university’s pivotal role in supporting Egypt’s healthcare system. He further emphasized the institution’s contribution to delivering advanced specialized medical and therapeutic services to residents of the Central Delta governorates.
The Presidential Advisor for Health and Prevention Affairs affirmed that university hospitals constitute one of the fundamental pillars of Egypt’s healthcare system due to their dual role in providing medical treatment and preparing qualified healthcare professionals, while also supporting applied scientific research that addresses community needs. He stressed the importance of continuing to develop medical infrastructure and improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare services provided to citizens.
For his part, Prof. Mohamed Hussein welcomed Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din’s visit, emphasizing that it reflects the political leadership’s strong commitment to developing healthcare services within university hospitals and supporting their vital role in providing specialized healthcare to citizens, in addition to their educational and research missions in training qualified medical professionals.
Prof. Hussein explained that the Tanta University Chest Hospital represents a significant and qualitative addition to the university’s hospital network, owing to its capacity, modern facilities, and advanced infrastructure. He noted that the hospital consists of six floors and accommodates up to 115 beds, thereby enhancing the university’s ability to provide specialized services in chest diseases and respiratory medicine.
He further stated that the hospital is fully equipped with an integrated electronic patient information system that connects all medical and administrative units through a unified network. This system ensures the delivery of high-quality healthcare services and facilitates the rapid and accurate exchange of information throughout the hospital. He highlighted that this digital transformation enables the creation of comprehensive databases and precise statistical records, helping identify the prevalence and nature of respiratory diseases across the Delta region. Such data, he explained, supports the university’s research efforts by directing scientific studies toward addressing real community health challenges and developing practical solutions.
Prof. Hussein reaffirmed that the development of the university’s hospitals remains a top institutional priority, reflecting the university’s social responsibility and commitment to serving the community. He noted that Tanta University is implementing a comprehensive plan to modernize medical infrastructure, improve treatment services, and strengthen the readiness of its university hospitals to receive and manage various medical cases, in alignment with Egypt’s national strategy to enhance the quality of healthcare.
Prof. Mohamed Hantira also emphasized that the Tanta University Chest Hospital represents a major advancement in the specialized healthcare services offered by the university. He explained that the hospital was developed according to a comprehensive vision that integrates advanced medical care, continuous professional training, and applied scientific research, thereby ensuring the provision of safe and effective healthcare services to patients.
Prof. Hantira added that the hospital includes state-of-the-art equipment and specialized units for managing a wide range of chest diseases and critical care cases. These capabilities enhance the university hospitals’ capacity to accommodate larger numbers of patients and provide distinguished medical services to residents of Gharbia Governorate and the Central Delta region. He further noted that the Faculty of Medicine and the university hospitals are committed to leveraging their human, academic, and technological resources to serve the community and support the state’s efforts to advance the healthcare sector.
