Prof. Mahmoud Zaki: Tanta University jumps 46 places internationally in the Dutch "Leiden" ranking Ranks 17th in Africa

Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, Tanta University President, announced that the university has advanced 46 places from last year in the international Dutch "Leiden" ranking (CWTS Leiden) for 2024, reaching the 870th position globally with a total of 1,806 research publications compared to 1,561 publications the previous year. The university also ranked 8th locally among only 15 Egyptian universities that met the international standards for this ranking. Additionally, it achieved 17th place on the African continent. This year’s Leiden ranking included 1,506 universities worldwide out of approximately 30,000 universities globally. The results of the ranking were announced in June for the period 2019-2022.

Prof. Mahmoud Zaki emphasized that the university's advancement in the ranking reflects the efforts of the university's administration to elevate the university's status in international rankings. He pointed out that the university is continuously and swiftly taking steady steps to advance the educational and research system by providing all the capabilities and supportive measures to motivate researchers at all academic levels to improve the quality and outcomes of scientific research, in line with the state's strategic plan and Egypt's Vision 2030.

The university president added that Tanta University was ranked this year in Life and Earth Sciences, advancing 69 places to rank 870th globally and 8th locally. In Biomedical and Health Sciences, the university advanced 7 places to rank 669th globally and 7th locally. In Physical and Engineering Sciences, the university advanced 45 places to rank 807th globally and 8th locally. In Mathematics and Computer Science, the university advanced 42 places to rank 865th globally and 8th locally.

It is noteworthy that the Dutch ranking criteria depend on global scientific publication indexed in the (Clarivate) database, the quality of these researches and citations, and institutional and international collaboration in their production.
