Funded by Science, Technology, and Innovation Funding Authority and in Cooperation with Zagazig and Suez Universities, Tanta University Organizes a Workshop to Present the Research Outcomes of the Project "Optimal Exploitation Strategies for Sustainable Use of Non-Renewable Groundwater Reserves in Egypt."

Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Acting President of Tanta University, participated today in a workshop organized by Department of Irrigation and Hydraulics at Faculty of Engineering, Tanta University, to present the outcomes of a research project funded by Science, Technology, and Innovation Funding Authority. The project is a joint effort between Tanta, Zagazig, and Suez Universities and is titled "Optimal Exploitation Strategies for Sustainable Use of Non-Renewable Groundwater Reserves in Egypt."

    The workshop was attended by Prof. Abdel Hakim Abdel Khalek, former President of Tanta University; Prof. Emad Atman, former Vice President of Tanta University for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Ahmed Nasr, Faculty Dean; Prof. Tarek Fawzi, former Dean of the Faculty; Prof. Yasser El-Samadony, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Tamer Gado, Acting Head of the Irrigation and Hydraulics Department; Prof. Asaad Matar, Principal Researcher of the project; and Prof. Abdel Azim Negm, Professor of Irrigation and Hydraulics at Faculty of Engineering at Zagazig University and Project Consultant.

   Prof. Mohamed Hussein welcomed the attendees and guests from Zagazig and Suez Universities, emphasizing the great importance of the workshop in preserving natural resources as a key approach to achieving sustainability, including water resources, which are considered a national security issue and one of the main pillars in achieving sustainable development goals. He also highlighted the university’s partnership in the Delta Universities’ Alliance, where agricultural land constitutes more than 70% of the region's area, making agricultural activity one of the most important economic resources for the region. Moreover, he indicated that the workshop aims to highlight the key outcomes of the research project, exchange knowledge, and discuss the challenges and risks related to the water crisis and how to achieve optimal exploitation for the sustainable use of groundwater reserves to implement Egypt's 2030 sustainable development vision. He also thanked Zagazig and Suez universities and the research team.
