Today, the regular meeting of Tanta University Council for January was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Acting President of the University, with the presence of Prof. Fouad Harass, Former President of Tanta University; Prof. Abdel Hakim Abdel Khaleq, Former President of the University; Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Hatem Amin, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; faculty deans, the university’s legal advisor, and the university secretary-general.
At the beginning of his speech, Prof. Mohamed Hussein welcomed Prof. Fouad Harass and Prof. Abdel Hakim Abdel Khaleq, the former university presidents, on the occasion of their selection as members of the University Council for a two-year term. He praised their contributions to the university’s development during their tenure.
He also welcomed Prof. Eissawy Qassem, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, following the presidential decree appointing him to the position. Prof. Hussein wished him success in his role and expressed confidence that the faculty would achieve further progress, especially since "Agriculture" has been designated as a key focus area for Tanta University in the Delta Regional Alliance, alongside Energy and Water.
Recognition of Swift Government Action to Support Scholarship Students
Prof. Hussein commended the swift response of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Supreme Council of Universities in addressing the challenges faced by Egyptian students abroad under USAID scholarship programs. He emphasized that the university has several ongoing projects in collaboration with USAID, including:
Three Career Development Centers in the Faculties of Engineering, Commerce, and Science.
The Distinguished Teacher Project in the Faculty of Education.
The Disability Support Services Center at Tanta University.
He affirmed that these centers would continue their operations at full efficiency, with the university committed to providing all necessary technical and financial support to sustain their services for students.
Acknowledgment of Efforts in Conducting Mid-Year Exams
Prof. Hussein expressed his gratitude to faculty deans, teaching staff, and administrative teams for their outstanding efforts in conducting the first-semester exams for the 2024/2025 academic year. He highlighted their role in ensuring a smooth and well-organized examination process and urged the speedy completion of grading and result announcements.
University’s Role in the "A New Beginning for Human Development" Initiative
Prof. Hussein delivered a presentation outlining Tanta University’s contributions to the presidential initiative "A New Beginning for Human Development." The initiative focuses on education, healthcare, and employment, targeting both university members and the local community in Gharbia Governorate.
Key achievements of the initiative include:

Over 117,000 beneficiaries, including students, faculty, and community members.
Implementation across all university sectors, faculties, centers, and units.
Prof. Hussein extended his appreciation to Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, for his leadership in the initiative, particularly in the development convoys across Gharbia villages. He also thanked Prof. Ahmed Ghoneim, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, as well as the hospital directors, for their distinguished efforts in providing medical services to the victims of the "Tanta – Qutour" accident.
Advancements in Global University Rankings
Prof. Hussein highlighted the remarkable progress of Tanta University in global rankings for the 2024/2025 academic year, noting that the university appeared for the first time in several prestigious rankings. He emphasized that such achievements are the result of cumulative efforts over the years and extended his gratitude to the Institutional Performance Center and the International Rankings Unit for their contributions.
He also stressed the importance of aligning scientific research and student projects with national developmental goals to foster a knowledge-based economy and transition towards fourth-generation universities. He envisions universities as economic powerhouses that are fully equipped to implement Egypt’s national strategy and the goals of Vision 2030.
Enhancing Student Activities and International Cooperation
Prof. Hussein reviewed the framework, objectives, and evaluation criteria for the Best University in Student Activities competition for the 2024/2025 academic year. He urged faculties to intensify efforts in executing and monitoring student activity plans, expand student participation, and pursue partnerships with foreign universities for student exchange programs.
Advancements in Digital Transformation
Prof. Mohamed El-Nemr, Executive Director of the Central Center for Electronic and Knowledge Services, delivered a presentation on new administrative and office management platforms. The presentation covered:
Integration of administrative services with geographic location-based access.
Enhancements in learning management platforms.
Progress in the full digital transformation of the university’s main sectors and faculties.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Tanta University’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and strategic national alignment to ensure continued academic excellence and societal impact.
