A New Achievement for Tanta University in International Rankings: Ranked 621st Among 3,000 Universities in the URAP Ranking for Scientific Output

Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Acting President of Tanta University, announced that the university has appeared in the URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance) ranking for the 2024/2025 academic year, securing the 621st position globally among 3,000 universities worldwide. This marks an 80-place improvement from the previous year. Moreover, the university has maintained its 8th position nationally, despite an increase in the number of Egyptian universities ranked, which has now reached 37 institutions.

The Acting President emphasized that the university's progress in this ranking is the result of its integrated strategic plan aimed at enhancing its position in global rankings, advancing academic and research fields, and strengthening international cooperation with prestigious universities worldwide. He praised the efforts of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Sector in encouraging faculty members and researchers to improve research output and publish in renowned scientific journals.

It is worth noting that the URAP ranking system is based on universities’ scientific output, considering several criteria such as the number of articles and research citations. To be ranked in URAP, a university must be among the top 3,000 institutions with the highest scores according to the ranking's methodological indicators.

The URAP ranking methodology relies on six performance indicators, and since it is a performance-based ranking, research publications form the foundation of the methodology. The ranking evaluates both the quality and quantity of publications, as well as the performance of international research collaboration.

URAP relies on trusted and widely recognized data sources, including several research platforms such as Web of Science (Clarivate – InCites) to measure ranking indicators, which include:

Number of articles (21% of the total ranking weight)

Citations (references) (21% of the total ranking weight)

Total article impact (18% of the total ranking weight)

Total citation impact (15% of the total ranking weight)

International collaboration (15% of the total ranking weight)

Total number of documents (10% of the total ranking weight)
