A New Academic Achievement in International Rankings: Tanta University Among the Top 1,200 Out of 21,000 Universities Worldwide in the 2025 CWUR Ranking

Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, has announced a new academic milestone on the international stage. The university has been ranked among the top 1,200 globally, out of approximately 21,000 institutions, according to the 2025 edition of the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). This achievement underscores the university’s excellence and leadership in the fields of higher education and scientific research.


According to the ranking, Tanta University secured the 1,153rd position globally out of 21,462 evaluated universities, marking a significant advancement of 84 places compared to its position last year. The university also maintained its distinguished local status, ranking seventh among Egyptian universities, and advanced to 22nd place continentally in Africa—up three places from the previous year.


Prof. Hussein emphasized that this progress reflects the university's continuous efforts to elevate the standards of education and research, reaffirming its commitment to delivering high-quality academic programs and impactful research contributions both locally and internationally. He highlighted the university's dedication to supporting faculty members, researchers, and students, encouraging innovation and creativity, and expanding avenues for collaboration with leading universities and research institutions around the world. He noted that this accomplishment serves as a powerful motivation to continue diligent work to further strengthen the university's standing in global rankings.


The CWUR ranking methodology is based on seven objective indicators grouped into four key areas:


Education (25% of the overall score): measured by the academic success of a university’s alumni.


Employability (25%): based on the professional achievements of alumni, adjusted for the size of the university.


Faculty (10%): assessed by the number of faculty members who have received top academic distinctions.


Research (40%): encompasses four sub-indicators:


Research Output (10%): total number of research articles published.


High-Quality Publications (10%): number of articles published in top-tier journals.


Influence (10%): number of publications in high-impact journals.


Citations (10%): number of highly cited research papers.
