Tanta University Advances in the Prestigious Nature Index International Ranking Leads Egyptian universities in Health Sciences and ranks fourth nationally in overall research performance

Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, announced a new research achievement in the Nature Index rankings covering the period from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025. The University secured first place among Egyptian universities in the field of Health Sciences, ranking 1166 globally, reflecting its national and regional leadership in medical and health research with direct societal impact. Moreover, Tanta University ranked 2615 globally and fourth nationally in overall research performance across all institutions, and 1789 globally and fourth nationally among academic institutions.

The ranking also highlighted Tanta University’s strong presence across multiple scientific disciplines: 2409 globally and seventh nationally in Chemistry; 2448 globally and fifth nationally in Physical Sciences; and 4019 globally and twentieth nationally in Life Sciences. Topping the national list in Health Sciences represents a historic milestone, underscoring the University’s efforts in supporting medical research, expanding international publication, and strengthening collaborations with leading global health and research institutions.

Prof. Mohamed Hussein emphasized that this achievement reaffirms the University’s commitment to advancing scientific research, particularly in the medical and health domains. He noted that reaching 1166 globally in Health Sciences demonstrates the ability of Tanta’s researchers to produce high-quality, impactful studies. He further stated that the University’s progress to 2615 globally and fourth nationally overall, as well as fourth nationally in academic performance, is the result of a collective effort by the entire Tanta University community—faculty, researchers, and postgraduate students—who have worked diligently to realize this accomplishment. He affirmed the University’s determination to continue strengthening its global academic standing and serving both the Egyptian and regional community through the production of world-class scientific research.

For his part, Prof. Hatem Amin, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, explained that the Nature Index is one of the world’s most important indicators of institutional research performance. It is based on an analysis of scientific output published in 145 prestigious international journals in the fields of natural and health sciences, measuring two main metrics: the total number of publications (Count) and the fractional contribution of an institution’s researchers in collaborative studies (Share). The index places greater emphasis on the quality of journals and publications rather than overall research volume, which highlights Tanta University’s position among globally distinguished universities. He added that the Nature Index does not reflect the total output of an institution’s publications but focuses exclusively on journals with the highest reputational standing in the sciences.
