According to the press release of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, welcomed the attendees to this distinguished event held in the heart of the New Administrative Capital. He explained that the exhibition is a pioneering platform for marketing innovation and aims to transform scientific research into industrial value through research commercialization, activating an ambitious vision that brings together institutions, research centers, innovation support funds, industry partners, and the Knowledge Bank.

He emphasized that this integrated model is the foundation of the event and called on everyone to seize the opportunity to explore the promising potential offered by Egyptian and international researchers.

Prof. Ayman Ashour also presented a comprehensive national vision for the higher education and scientific research system until 2030, which focuses primarily on transitioning towards a knowledge-based economy and aligning scientific research with sustainable development goals.

The Minister noted that one of the key objectives of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research was to set a roadmap for the knowledge economy, pointing to the launch of the National Policy for Sustainable Innovation aimed at making Egypt a regional hub for innovation, in response to the rising global demand for innovative solutions amid accelerating digital transformation — while building on Egypt’s youth population and strong STEM-oriented educational system, and its strategic position connecting continents.

He also highlighted the major achievements of Egyptian researchers over recent years in various international indicators.
According to the 2025 Global Knowledge Index, Egypt has 853 researchers per million people, ranking 55th globally, with 140,230 researchers publishing Scopus-indexed papers between 2022 and 2025.

The number of Egyptian researchers ranked among the top 2% globally in Stanford’s list rose from 396 in 2019 to 1106 in 2024.

Prof. Ashour revealed further positive indicators of scientific progress: Egypt ranked 25th globally in the SCImago classification for the number of cited papers, with nearly 41,897 cited publications — ranking first in the MENA region.

He also noted significant improvements in publication quality:

53.5% of Egyptian papers appear in top-quartile (Q1) journals.

78% appear in Q1 and Q2 journals combined.

Egypt ranked 44th worldwide in research topics published by universities and research centers in the Global Knowledge Index, particularly in: medical and veterinary sciences, engineering, agriculture, and computer science.

He also noted Egypt’s achievement in placing Greater Cairo among the top 100 global scientific and technological clusters (ranked 83rd) — the only representative of Africa and the Middle East.

In entrepreneurship, Egypt ranked first in Africa and third in the Middle East and North Africa in startup investment volume, reaching around $2 billion over the past four years.

Regarding the internationalization of education, the Minister highlighted the success in attracting investments to establish branches of foreign universities, with nine presidential decrees issued so far.

Prof. Ashour also presented the major transformation of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) from a reading platform to a knowledge-exporting institution serving several Arab and African countries, with international partnerships and strategic agreements signed with the Association of Arab Universities and the Arab Union of Scientific Research Councils.

He also highlighted Egypt’s accession as a full partner in the Horizon Europe program, granting Egyptian researchers equal opportunities with their European counterparts.
