Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President, presented a comprehensive report and a data-driven presentation supported by visuals on the university’s achievements in 2025, in the presence of the Governor of Gharbia, during the regular session of the University Council. The report demonstrated that Tanta University recorded an unprecedented developmental and academic leap in 2025, establishing itself as a living model of fourth-generation universities—one that professionally balances global research excellence with a pioneering developmental role. This progress aligns precisely with the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030 and the outcomes of the National Strategy for Higher Education, achieved through a uniquely integrated institutional approach.
During his presentation of the annual performance report, Prof. Mohamed Hussein emphasized that these distinguished achievements would not have been possible without the unprecedented support and inspiring strategic vision of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, who has placed education and scientific research at the core of national priorities in building the New Republic. He also commended the sincere efforts of Prof. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for leading the national development agenda with professionalism and efficiency. Prof. Hussein extended his deep appreciation to the entire university community—vice presidents, deans, faculty members, administrative staff, and students—describing them as the true driving force behind this transformation that has positioned the university as a key engine of comprehensive development in the Delta region and beyond.
International Rankings and Research Excellence
On the international rankings front, Tanta University significantly strengthened its global presence by achieving a remarkable leap in the US News 2025 ranking, securing 493rd place worldwide, advancing 103 positions in a single year. The university also achieved exceptional distinction in Energy and Fuel Sciences, ranking 68th globally, and topped national rankings in Mechanical and Chemical Engineering according to the Shanghai Ranking.
Moreover, the university was shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Environmental Leadership Award 2025, while its strong commitment to green sustainability standards resulted in an advancement of 129 positions in the QS Sustainability Ranking.
In parallel with this research excellence, 47 Tanta University scholars were listed among Stanford University’s top 2% of scientists worldwide. International publication output in high-impact journals (Q1 & Q2) rose to 3,074 research papers, alongside strengthened international collaboration through major projects such as the Horizon Project for promoting the circular economy, in partnership with 25 international institutions and a total budget of €1,311,000 funded by the European Union.
Academic Development and Infrastructure Expansion
In terms of academic and infrastructural development, 2025 witnessed the issuance of the Presidential Decree and the commencement of studies at Tanta National University, comprising 7 faculties and 10 advanced academic programs. Concurrently, the parent university expanded to 93 academic programs, including 37 distinguished programs aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Artificial Intelligence.
Five faculties obtained 11 new accreditations from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education, while the Faculties of Sports Sciences and Agriculture achieved institutional accreditation, in addition to the renewal of international ISO certifications.
This progress contributed to an increase in the number of international students to 3,304. Simultaneously, the university implemented a major construction and technological transformation with an estimated cost of EGP 6 billion. Completion rates reached 93.5% for the student housing project, 87% for the electronic examination building, 76.5% for the Mahalla Teaching Hospital (900900), and 47.5% for the new Emergency Hospital, alongside initiating procedures for the new Children’s Hospital and upgrading educational infrastructure such as the GIS Laboratory at the Faculty of Engineering and the Scientific Center for Capital Markets at the Faculty of Commerce.
Medical Services and Financial Growth
At the level of medical services and financial performance, university hospitals achieved a significant qualitative leap by providing nearly 2.5 million medical services and performing over 30,000 complex surgical procedures. Specialized units were inaugurated, including an advanced burn unit and diabetic retinopathy screening services.
The New Surgical Hospital received initial accreditation from GAHAR and was integrated into the Comprehensive Health Insurance System, in addition to signing a EGP 27 million protocol with Banque Misr Foundation to support operating rooms and intensive care units.
Financially, the university recorded substantial growth in self-generated revenues. Foreign-currency revenues reached USD 6,947,207 within 9 months, reflecting a 61% increase compared to the previous fiscal year. Dollar revenues from university housing increased by 46.5%, while special economic centers and units generated EGP 25,013,527 in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025/2026, underscoring the efficiency of financial management and the university’s strategic approach.
Community Engagement and Student Activities
In community responsibility and student engagement, Tanta University ranked first nationally in literacy eradication, successfully eradicating illiteracy for 11,950 citizens in a single cycle. The university also launched 171 developmental convoys, providing healthcare services to 70,000 citizens and veterinary care to 131,000 livestock and poultry.
The university emerged as a leading model of social solidarity by providing financial support to 12,725 students amounting to EGP 7.5 million, covering tuition fees for 2,004 students from “Takaful and Karama” families, and delivering student healthcare services exceeding EGP 34 million in cost.
In innovation and career development, 15,000 students and graduates were trained, 20 startups were launched, and the “AI Vibes” Hackathon was inaugurated. This exceptional year concluded with outstanding student achievements, as Tanta University won 7 major awards in the “Ibda’a 13” Competition under the patronage of the President of the Republic, secured 116 sports medals, and implemented the “Tamkeen” Initiative to support students with disabilities by providing advanced Braille laboratories and assistive technologies, embodying the Egyptian state’s vision of empowering and integrating all citizens as active contributors to society
